Can you replace single speed pump motor with dual speed pump motor?

Yes but you can't go with a higher HP than the single speed motor. For example if you have a 1 HP single speed you cannot go with a 1.5 HP dual speed motor; you would be able to use a 1 HP dual speed motor. Customer would need to purchase a toggle switch or timer to switch from high speed to low speed.

What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Can you direct me to the proper hi low switch for this motor?

Unfortunately the manufacturer does not offer the switch for the 2 speed 220v motors any longer. If you already have a 220 volt timer (on/off) you would need an Intermatic T106R to switch from high to low speed. If you do not have a timer currently you would need the T10604R which is a 220v on/off timer and a high/low timer.

Will this replace a Sta-rite Max E Pro 2 - 1/4 hp pool pump motor? Pump model number P6RA6YG-207L

Hi Alan, yes, this is the correct dual speed replacement motor for the motor on the P6RA6YG-207L . You will also need a Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro tune-up kit when you replace your motor. Installed this motor and it appears the impeller needs a counter clockwise motor rotation. Can the motor direction be changed.
Hi Eugene, these pool motors are designed to only spin in one direction and cannot be changed.

ordered SQS1152R & GO kit 54 your recommendation, to replace my old P2R5F-126L motor (SQ1152) Problem is shaft seal does not seem to compress enough to allow seal plate to sit flush with motor mounting surface where 4 bolts attach. there is 1/4 to 3/8 inch gap between the two surfaces when fully compressed. Are there miss- matched parts or some other problem?
Hello Paul, unfortunately, there are no orders with us attached to your account for a motor and seal kit besides one that was cancelled due to not being California 20 compliant however that order had a GOKIT6 on it for a Sta-Rite Dura Glass/ Max E Glas pump. The shaft seal in the GOKIT54 will be compatible however if you have a copper cone insert in the seal plate that will need to be removed.

Hello Eric. The Century Motors 1.5 HP Dual Speed motor model SQS1152R has a Total Horsepower (THP) of 2.21. The Hayward MaxFlo XL pump model SP2310X152 was originally manufactured with a 1.65THP motor. Technically the SQS1152R is a compatible replacement. The Century Motors Dual Speed motor model SQS1102R has a THP of 1.65. The SQS1102R is less expensive than the SQS1152R. Century 1.0 HP Square Flange 48Y Dual Speed Full Rate Motor - SQS1102R It is recommended that the motor shaft seal be replaced at the same time. Please see attached.
