Hi Joe, all pool motors spin at the same speed (well, the single-speed ones do), so, if you want to improve your pumps performance, you will need a new impeller to match the higher-HP motor. You will also need to get a Pentair VS pump if you want full control from your automation. The good news is that the VS motors can be controlled easily on their own. We would recommend this Hayward Super Pump VS Motor Upgrade Kit. It has everything you will need.

My model ST1202 motor on my Hayward Super II needs to be replaced, I'm in California so I have to upgrade to a variable speed motor. On the ST1202 webpage it lists the NPTT270 as the recommended replacement part, but I also noticed you sell a Super II VS upgrade kit, which uses this EVC225 motor instead. Is there a major difference between the two? Should I be worried about any comparability issues?

Hi Nicolas,The EVC225 is an option, but you would also need to downgrade the impeller. The ST1202 is a full-rated motor with a total of 2.60 HP when factoring in the service factor. A better option would be the NPTT270 from Nidec — it’s a 2.70 HP motor, and you’d only need the motor and seal kit to make the switch. It's also more versatile in being able to set programs.

So far so good. I have a rich history with Century single speed motors and so far, I'm happy with variable speed alternative. There are limitations to the pre-programmed schedules, gut this more than meets my needs.
