How does the dual speed feature of this pump work?

Some dual speed pumps have a toggle switch in the back of the motor to change speeds manually, but many do not. Generally you would need to tie this dual speed pump into one of our dual speed pump timers/controllers. One of the more popular models is the Digital PE153 series. This timer has 3 functions: one to turn the pump on and off, a second auxiliary to switch from high speed to low speed, and then a third for any other piece of pool equipment. I have a Hayward NorthStar that I am looking to replace. The only one's I see all have a threaded union connection. Do you still carry the one with the Quad lock?

Unfortunately Hayward discontinued the Quad Lock design on the NorthStar pump models in 2007. The housing on the newer pumps is a threaded design and re-plumbing would be necessary.

Hello Eddie. The Hayward TriStar VS Pump - W3SP3202VSP is a compatible pump replacement for the Hayward NorthStar model SO4015X202. The Performance Data for the Hayward TriStar W3SP202VSP is very close to that of the Hayward NorthStar SP4015X202. Northstar Pool Pump 2 HP - SP4015X20NS Plumbing alterations would need to be completed for the TriStar VSP installation.

great pump and motor that was easy to replace. the motor lasted ten years before it started to act up and as a electrician that replaces outdoor motors all the time this unit lasts and is quiet and powerfull.

Everything we ordered came correct and very quickly. We are well satisfied. The only warning I have for people purchasing this pump as a replacement pump is that the fitting are different than the older version of this same pump. The old pump had lock in fittings and the new version had a screw on fitting. So if you order this unit to replace the old Northstar model, understand that minor plumbing work will also be needed. Other than that, the pool is up and running and we are well satisfied with the products and the service.

Cons: Big: Make sure you have enough room to install
Was looking to upgrade my pump after 40 years(Had rebuilt the old Hayward a couple times and case was starting to have broken edges). Chose the Northstar series for its newer features. Wanted higher pressure, but learned that would probably blow my lines. Really like this pump.
