my pump has a high pitched winning sound during operation, could it be bearings?

That high pitched winning sound is a key indicator that the bearings are failing in your motor.

what size frame is this?

Hi Kelli the Jacuzzi Magnum uses a 56J frame motor. The barrel of this motor measures roughly 6-3/8" in diameter.

My Jacuzzi Magnum pump just died.(model #1 MF-S). Should I replace it with the same model or is there a better, variable sped, modelthat would work and be more energy efficient?

Hi Cris, You will save on your operational costs by going with a variable speed pump. Our article on How Much Does a Pool Pump Cost to Operate goes into this in greater detail. The Speck Variable Speed Pump would be a good option for replacing a Jacuzzi Magnum Pump with a variable speed pump.

Does this pump recycle itself on and off as an energy saver feature?

Hi Dean, The Jacuzzi Magnum Pump 1 HP Pump can not shut itself on/off unless it starts to overheat, otherwise it will go on/off if it is wired to a timer.

our pump failed

Written on 12/14/2017 by Guest

We ordered a new pump from Inyopools. It arrived in a few days. The pump did not come with a cord so we had to take the cord off the old pump. Basically this was just a matter of attaching the cord, attaching the plumbing connections from the pool and to the filter, plugging it in, priming it and turning it on. No problem. We did have a friend of ours (an electrician) check the wiring to make sure we had done it correctly (we had). This pump replaced an older Magnum pump so the plumbing was easy to reconnect.

The pool pump was making some very unusual noises (bad bearings)

Start with electrical. Turn off power, check voltage; both conductors phase to phase and phase to ground . Check voltage again, even check between the phase conductor and the dirt (just to be sure). Disconnect power conductors within the motor and remove from housing. Plumbing; loosen the two union connectors and the pump and strainer housing are ready to remove. Reversing the process is straightforward; you will need to ensure the threaded adaptors are not overtightened, you can damage the pump. The time spent was more about running around finding tools and plumber's tape than actual hands on the pump. Well prepared and organized, 45 minutes.
