I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

I feel fortunate to have found this site. The price was the best I could find. And their service was even better. Kudo's to INYO. You have my respect and my business going forward. This is a really good pump, I'm very happy with it ... it's so much quieter than our last pump. I have to look at the waterfall so I know that the pump is on.

Pros: Quiet, well made
Cons: Basket lid seal air leak
Pump makes less noise and appears better quality than my old Pentair pump which had bearing failure after 4 years service. Haven't been able to stop what appears to be small air leak probably from basket cover seal - water drains down to pump intake when motor stops. Old pump retained water level. Intake opening on new pump is about 1/2 inch higher than old pump and about 1/4 inch higher than advertised- this complicates installation somewhat - so if you are replacing an older pump, expect to cut and move some pipe or pump base. I haven't had it long enough to speak to the energy efficiency but it does produce significantly greater pressure and water flow than my old 3/4hp pump. As usual INYO shipped promptly- received just 4 days after order.
