A  Answered on 5/6/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

Rick, You can use the PL1102 to replace your existing one. The PL1102 runs at higher amps which will cost a little more to operate. Another option would the Century UCT1102 which has a slightly lower amp draw than your existing motor.

Hi, I need to replace my pump motor. Local pool store recommend i use the 1.25hp motor for model C48K2N143B1 / originally 1hp motor I do not see one that is 1.25hp. Also need the gaskets/o'rings for it. Lastly need the gasket for the Vari Flo XL Valve SP0714G11 Help would be appreciated. I can find this stuff myself but numbers did not match completely. Would be nice to get the correct item numbers to prevent any returns. Thanks, Marc

Hi. This PL1102 motor can be used as a replacement for MOD # C48K2N143B1. The original motor which is the UST1102 is a direct replacement with a THP of 1.25. You will need to provide us with the pump housing model or name in order for us to locate the gaskets and o-rings. Use the Hayward Multiport Variflo XL 1 1/2" SP714T Parts Diagram to identify which gasket you need for your valve.

Yes, this is a correct single speed motor replacement and you may need a seal kit being the GOKIT3 for a chlorine pool and GOKIT3SALT for a saltwater pool.

Could you mention any significant differences (other than $10 price diff) on this Pure Line vs. AO Smith UST1102. Noticed svc factor is 1.0 vs. 1.1 on my original Hayward Century 1HP pump. Looks like both are viable replacements and at this value not worth a bearing transplant given tools needed and complexity etc.

Hi, Todd. Other than price and the brand name, there is no major difference between the two motors.

 Reply

A  Answered on 9/18/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, the PL1102 is a suitable single speed replacement motor for your motor and the GOKIT3 is correct for a chlorine pool and the GOKIT3SALT is for a saltwater pool. Also, I believe that the fourth ground that you are referring to is the bonding lug on the top of the motor. Generally, the wiring is the same however there will be a wiring diagram on the motor label for clarification.

I just purchased this motor for my Hayward Super Pump. I installed everything exactly as your video showed, and replaced all of the shaft seals and gaskets with your salt water pump repair kit, PL1083. However, I have a water drip coming from the drain port on the bottom of the rear shaft seal housing. I can’t figure out why, any suggestions?
 Reply

A  Answered on 7/18/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

So these shaft seals can very easily be compromised during installation. If wet, dirtied, or touched on the ceramic, they could be compromised. I would recommend reinstalling and cleaning the shaft seal with rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work please give us a call to see what we can do for you.

Hello, We would need to know the minimum GPM your pool would need, the man GPMs on the filter, and the total dynamic feet of head on the pool. We would need to know that information in order to properly size a new pump for you.

John, Your motor is a 1 HP Full Rate motor which means you will need a 1.5 HP up rate motor and this 1 HP up rate motor is NOT the proper replacement motor for you. Also since you are based in California you will need a variable speed motor or pump replacement as California no longer allows single speed motors or pumps. I would suggest this PL1116 1.5 HP Variable Speed Replacement Motor I will cancel your current order and send you a quote for the proper items you need and if you decided to go the variable speed route then you can place your order directly through that emailed quote.

What is a motor service factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/5/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Marla. Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

I believe I need to replace the motor on My Hayward Super II 1 HP pump. Will this motor work with my current pump system?

Hi, Marla. This PL1102 - 1 H.P Pool Motor Round Flange 56J will work the Hayward Super II Pump. You will need to confirm the motor service factor to make sure that you get the correct 1 hp motor.

Hi. I would recommend getting the Century UST1102 motor since the PL1102 Motor is no longer available. I would recommend replacing the pump seal and o-rings but I will need to know the pump housing model or name.

We have a Haywood 3/4hp super pump motor will not turn just hums. We want to replace with a 1 hp motor what do we need in order to install this larger motor. Our current plumbing is 1-1/2 " lines. Would you suggest replacing whole pump and motor or just motor? Need pricing on just 1 hp motor and also price on whole unit. We have a new liner, Ordered and want to get ready for It. The 3//4 Hp we have always seems to run warm and is noisy, our pool is 26,600 gallons and measures 18' x 36'

Hi Joan, If you would like to replace your motor with a 1 HP you would need this PL1102 motor, this Hayward Super Pump Seal Kit and this 1 HP Super Pump Impeller. I personally like the PureLine Prime 1 HP PL2601 which is a drop in replacement for the Hayward Super Pump. The Prime does have 2" ports so you will need Two 1.5" x 2" Adapters. My suggestion would be to go the PL2601 PureLine Prime as this will get you a complete new pump and will be easier to install.

Hi. This PL1102 motor will work with the Hayward Super Pump - SP2607X10 model. I would also recommend getting the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT.

what is the difference between a "B" insul class and an "F" insul class?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Per the manufacturer. We build all of our motors with class “F” insulation or better.  When the nameplate indicates class “B”, this means the motor is designed to operate within class “B” temperature rise limits.  These limits are 80 degrees centigrade at 1.0 service factor, and 90 degrees centigrade at 1.15 service factor.  For many years, it has been our policy to nameplate open dripproof motors that meet this temperature rise criteria with the insulation class “B”, regardless of the actual insulation type.  This gives the end user the information that the motor has a 90 degrees centigrade, or less, temperature rise at 1.15 service factor.

I have a 23,000 gallon in-ground pool. I have the Hayward S-200 sand filter with a rating of 42GPM. I had a 3/4 HP motor on a Hayward Super Pump. The motor bearings have failed and the motor was seized. Can I up the motor to a 1 hp, and maybe upgrade the impeller, without changing the whole pump?

A  Answered on 5/14/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

You could but I would not recommend it for the increase in water pressure moving through the filter could cause damage to it.

When attaching the impeller to the motor shaft, how do you hold the end of the shaft to tighten it on this model?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/5/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

At the rear end of the motor where the shaft comes out you can hold it steady with a small wrench so that you can unscrew or tighten the impeller.

I have a 1 1/2 hp Hayward Super Pump model # C48K2N143B1 which this pump is supposed to replace but this is only 1 hp. Is this the correct replacement motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/26/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

Hello John- I would definitely verify the motor number and specification information on the label and compare it against the UST1152  1.5HP Motor. The models of this motor include C48K2N134B1 (slightly different than N143B1). You would also want to compare the impeller sizing to ensure it is sized for a 1.5HP motor and not a 1HP motor. Here is a link to the Hayward Super Pump parts page. Don't forget the Tune Up Kit!!

I have a Hayward Super Pump, Model #C48K2N143B1. Which replacement motor do you recommend? I wouldn't mind have a dual speed with a timer if you have a motor that will fit my pump. Thanks
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/30/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

The correct replacement motor is the A.O. Smith 1 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor - UST1102. If you are looking for a dual speed alternative, I would recommend the 1 HP Full Rate Two Speed Motor W/ Timer - Round Flange (B975T,B2975T). Whenever you change out a motor, we recommend you replace the seals and the GOKIT3 will include all the o-rings and seals for the Hayward Super Pump.

Is this the same as st 1102?
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/30/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

Unfortunately, the PL1102 is not the same total HP as the ST1102. The PL1102 would be the equivalent to the UST1102.

I am looking for a replacement motor for my pool pump but all the ratings listed on the label are confusing me. What are the important stats on a motor label I should look for to ensure I'm getting the correct motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/20/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The key points on a label to know to ensure the proper motor selection are the Model number, Part number or Catalog number. If a match of one of these numbers is found, that match is the drop-in replacement for your motor. We also provide a guide on >How to Read a Pool Motor Label

Seized motor

Written on 3/22/2020 by Guest

Hello All,
Replacing the motor is a must to save money over buying a new pump all together. It is fairly easy for the mechanically savvy.

Turn off the power! Remove the back cover and disconnect the power leads. ***If you are not comfortable working with electricity, then STOP now! You should have an electrician or pool repair company do this repair!

There are 4 bolts on the motor mount that will need to be removed to release the motor from the pump housing. Then you can remove the motor from housing. You will need a 7/16 on the motor shaft on one end and then unscrew the impeller off the other end. You will then find that there are 4 more bolts holding the motor mount to the face of the motor.

I had to soak my bolts in PB Blaster overnight they were stuck pretty good. Once I was able to remove them, I used anti-seize paste when I reinstalled them into the new motor.

The one trick is making sure to install a new shaft seal, or you will have a leaky pump. Take care not to touch that with your dirty fingers. I use the paper that comes in the box to press the seal in place.

Everything goes back together in reverse order of taking apart :) wink. Further, there are lots of Youtube videos that you can watch for a more detail step by step.

Hayward R+R

So a 3 year lifespan on Hayward Super Pump. Pool company says just run it till it gives up the ghost. Bad idea, the old pump got so hot it melted the plastic into wet end. The PL pump was a direct replacement and actually easier to transfer into the Hayward. 7/16 wrench and the wiring was so easy for 220v there are two terminals for two wires + ground you really cant screw this up! Estimated savings about 350 from having pros handle. That buys a lot of chlorine/bromine for my pool!

Bad bearings in pump motor and seals were leaking.

Written on 6/14/2017 by Guest

Ordered replacement motor and saltwater seal kit. Motor arrived three days later by UPS. Seal kit arrived in 4 days by USPS. Don't understand why it took that long for an envelope!! Would suggest UPS for Both items.

Installed seals and pump motor in a couple hours with no issues. Reinstalled entire pump and all seems to be working fine. Good service from INYO.
