I am looking for a replacement motor for my pool pump but all the ratings listed on the label are confusing me. What are the important stats on a motor label I should look for to ensure I'm getting the correct motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/20/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The key points on a label to know to ensure the proper motor selection are the Model number, Part number or Catalog number. If a match of one of these numbers is found, that match is the drop-in replacement for your motor. We also provide a guide on >How to Read a Pool Motor Label

Unfortunately, the PL1102 is not the same total HP as the ST1102. The PL1102 would be the equivalent to the UST1102.

I have a Hayward Super Pump, Model #C48K2N143B1. Which replacement motor do you recommend? I wouldn't mind have a dual speed with a timer if you have a motor that will fit my pump. Thanks
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/30/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

The correct replacement motor is the A.O. Smith 1 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor - UST1102. If you are looking for a dual speed alternative, I would recommend the 1 HP Full Rate Two Speed Motor W/ Timer - Round Flange (B975T,B2975T). Whenever you change out a motor, we recommend you replace the seals and the GOKIT3 will include all the o-rings and seals for the Hayward Super Pump.

A  Answered on 10/26/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

Hello John- I would definitely verify the motor number and specification information on the label and compare it against the UST1152  1.5HP Motor. The models of this motor include C48K2N134B1 (slightly different than N143B1). You would also want to compare the impeller sizing to ensure it is sized for a 1.5HP motor and not a 1HP motor. Here is a link to the Hayward Super Pump parts page. Don't forget the Tune Up Kit!!

At the rear end of the motor where the shaft comes out you can hold it steady with a small wrench so that you can unscrew or tighten the impeller.

You could but I would not recommend it for the increase in water pressure moving through the filter could cause damage to it.

what is the difference between a "B" insul class and an "F" insul class?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Per the manufacturer. We build all of our motors with class “F” insulation or better.  When the nameplate indicates class “B”, this means the motor is designed to operate within class “B” temperature rise limits.  These limits are 80 degrees centigrade at 1.0 service factor, and 90 degrees centigrade at 1.15 service factor.  For many years, it has been our policy to nameplate open dripproof motors that meet this temperature rise criteria with the insulation class “B”, regardless of the actual insulation type.  This gives the end user the information that the motor has a 90 degrees centigrade, or less, temperature rise at 1.15 service factor.

Hi Joan, If you would like to replace your motor with a 1 HP you would need this PL1102 motor, this Hayward Super Pump Seal Kit and this 1 HP Super Pump Impeller. I personally like the PureLine Prime 1 HP PL2601 which is a drop in replacement for the Hayward Super Pump. The Prime does have 2" ports so you will need Two 1.5" x 2" Adapters. My suggestion would be to go the PL2601 PureLine Prime as this will get you a complete new pump and will be easier to install.

What is a motor service factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/5/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Marla. Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Yes this is the proper replacement motor for a HST110 1 HP. We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Hayward Super Pump, Hayward Super II, Hayward Max Flo, Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, Jacuzzi Magnum, Sta-Rite Duraglas, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

John, Your motor is a 1 HP Full Rate motor which means you will need a 1.5 HP up rate motor and this 1 HP up rate motor is NOT the proper replacement motor for you. Also since you are based in California you will need a variable speed motor or pump replacement as California no longer allows single speed motors or pumps. I would suggest this PL1116 1.5 HP Variable Speed Replacement Motor I will cancel your current order and send you a quote for the proper items you need and if you decided to go the variable speed route then you can place your order directly through that emailed quote.

So these shaft seals can very easily be compromised during installation. If wet, dirtied, or touched on the ceramic, they could be compromised. Yes, the PL1102 is a suitable single speed replacement motor for your motor and the GOKIT3 is correct for a chlorine pool and the GOKIT3SALT is for a saltwater pool. Also, I believe that the fourth ground that you are referring to is the bonding lug on the top of the motor. What motor insulation for a pool pump is ultimately better, class B (130 C) or class H (180 C)? Why?

Hi, Adam. The insulation class of the motor is based on the type of motor, electrical design and installation location.

I understand that - I need to replace a UST1102 motor and I found 2 different options with different motor insulation ratings. I was wondering which one would be better and why? Thanks, Adam

Hi, I need to replace my pump motor. Local pool store recommend i use the 1.25hp motor for model C48K2N143B1 / originally 1hp motor I do not see one that is 1.25hp. Also need the gaskets/o'rings for it. Lastly need the gasket for the Vari Flo XL Valve SP0714G11 Help would be appreciated. I can find this stuff myself but numbers did not match completely. Would be nice to get the correct item numbers to prevent any returns. Thanks, Marc

Hi. This PL1102 motor can be used as a replacement for MOD # C48K2N143B1. The original motor which is the UST1102 is a direct replacement with a THP of 1.25. You will need to provide us with the pump housing model or name in order for us to locate the gaskets and o-rings. Use the Hayward Multiport Variflo XL 1 1/2" SP714T Parts Diagram to identify which gasket you need for your valve.

I have a Century #CT1102 , 1 HP motor that I want to replace. Is your Pureline #PL1102 a perfect replacement for my Century #CT1102? I attached a photo of the specifications on the Century motor for your reference. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, Mark. Unfortunately, this PL1102 motor will NOT replace the CT1102. The PL1152 is the Pureline option or the CT1102

On the Pureline #PL1102 motor I do not see a capacitor on the top. Does it need one to start up.... or will it run fine they way it is. Mark

Hi, Mark. The start capacitor is located at the rear of the motor, it will run without a one being on top.

When replacing or repairing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.

Rick, You can use the PL1102 to replace your existing one. The PL1102 runs at higher amps which will cost a little more to operate. Another option would the Century UCT1102 which has a slightly lower amp draw than your existing motor.

Hi Gary, the correct replacement motor for the motor included in your photo is the UST1102. You will also need a Hayward Super Pump seal kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.
