Are there specs on how many microns this filter is rated at? Is there available another filter that won't allow finer particles to pass through?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/1/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

As a rule, sand filters sift particles ranging from 20 to 40 microns in size.  Cartridge filters can sift particles as small as 10 to 20 microns in size.  DE filters can sift contaminants as small as 1 to 3 microns in size. This makes DE filtration at least five to six times more efficient than sand filtration systems.

Will this be sufficient for 14000 gal inground pool?

The C9002 would be sufficient for a 14,000 gallon pool. The maximum flow rate of this filter is 90 GPM.

Old one was 17 years old. The sun had taken its toll. The pressure gauge port was cracked, the handle no longer screwed down tight on the center post.

I was replacing the pump, pump motor and filter unit all at the same time.
I took lots of pictures of the existing setup for reference before I started.
I used a saws-all to cut the pipe from the pool into the pump and the pipe from the filter back to the pool to remove the old unit.
I had purchased all of the PVC connections and couplings from the local big box store along with 8' of new pipe.
I purchased more of each piece then I planned to use, in case I screwed something up. I returned the extras when I was done. This saved me a trip in the middle of my installation!
I cleaned the ends of the pipes where I had just cut them off.
I then positioned all of the new equipment where the old equipment was located and quickly realized I needed to make some changes. I was using quick disconnect unions at all of my connections, the old system did not. They take up a little more room so the new filter would be slightly further away from the pump than the original.
I installed all four of the quick connect union pieces to the pump and filter.
I glued a quick connect to the pipe from the pool and connected it to the inlet of the pump to get the exact position of the pump set. I then measured and cut the pipe I would need to connect the pump to the filter and dry fit it all together. (Note, when dry fitting ensure that all connections are completely inserted in the couplings. After dry fitting it didn't line up. I cut my pipe down a bit to make it fit. I should have trusted my measurements. When I glued it up and the parts were fully inserted, I was short. This is where the extra pieces came came in handy.)
I continued to measure, cut, fit and glue all of the pieces until I was connected back to the return pipe to the pool.
I then wired up the pump with the existing wiring from the old system. (After inspecting and insuring is was the correct wiring for the new system.
I let the glue cure for the next 18 hours.
The next day I primed the pump and fired it up.
The new system has been running for a week now and my pool looks amazing.
It will be an nice change to not itch like crazy after cleaning the filter as the old system lid was like handling fiberglass because the finish was so damaged by the FL sun.
All in all it was pretty straight forward install that anybody with basic DIY skills could handle.
