Hello, there are two options, you can go with Hayward C-900 & Sta Rite PXC95 Generic Cartridge (PA90) - NFC1292 which is our generic, or Hayward Star Clear Plus O.E.M Cartridge C-900 - CX900RE which is from manufacturer, both work for your filter.

I need a new filter. The one in there now is a porpoise C8409 so I don't know which one I need. Could you help me please

Hello Vicki, the replacement for a C8409 is Hayward C-900 & Sta Rite PXC95 Replacement Cartridge (PA90) - PL0145. If you wanted original from manufacturer it would be Hayward Star Clear Plus O.E.M Cartridge C-900 - CX900RE.  The PL0145 is a generic version and less expensive, both will work for your unit C8409.

The old cartridge filter was worn out. The new filter was a perfect replacement.

Written on 6/3/2020 by Guest

1. First, I cut the power to the pump.
2. I opened the air vent on the top of the filter assembly to bleed the pressure.
3. I removed the old filter lid.
4. I drained all of the remaining water in the filter and then rinsed it out.
5. I put the new cartridge in the tank.
6. I put a new lid, ring and handles kit on the tank and then tightened the ring and air vent, replaced the tank drain plug and inspected the job for completeness.
7. Turned the pump power back ON and watched the new pressure gauge (part of the new lid and handle kit) and inspected for leaks. I noted the pressure and checked it again for leaks after the pressure stopped climbing.

Perfect and easy to do!

Changing pool filter

Written on 10/1/2019 by Guest

Bought house in feb 2018. Didn't realize pool filter had to be swapped out about once a year. My filter was long past its effectiveness. Bought new filter cartridge. Unscrewed locking right on top of pool filter. Removed filter cap. Removed old filter. Installed new filter. Replaced filter cap and resealed locking ring. Turned on pool pumped, checking for leaks around filter seal. No leaks and we are good to go for another year. 10 min tops. Thanks again

previous filter was clogged

Written on 8/16/2019 by Guest

We noticed that our pressure wasn't dropping much after cleaning our old filter, plus the bindings were starting to give. It was time for a new filter. This couldn't have been easier to swap.

1. Turn off pump
2. release pressure valve at filter housing
3. Unscrew filter housing top
4. Pull out old filter
5. Insert new filter
6. lubricate filter housing gaskets
7. screw on filter housing top
8. Start pump
9. After water starts coming out pressure release valve, re-tighten it

My cartridge was getting old and frayed.

Drained tank and opened top, took out old filter and replaced with new one. Water is clearer and the flow is stronger. Will keep the old one as a spare.
