I have a Hayward NorthStar that I am looking to replace. The only one's I see all have a threaded union connection. Do you still carry the one with the Quad lock?
Reply
Unfortunately Hayward discontinued the Quad Lock design on the NorthStar pump models in 2007. The housing on the newer pumps is a threaded design and re-plumbing would be necessary.

what pump would be able to replace my self priming one speed 1 hp pump model # SP4007X10NS north star......I only want single speed 1 hp self priming.
Reply
Hello- The closest replacement for your SP4007X10NS north star in strength would be the Hayward TriStar 1 HP, Energy Efficient, Full Rated Pump
Reply
Is the Hayward TriStar 1 HP Energy Efficient, full rated pump (SP3210EE), also a self priming pump??
Reply
Silve- Yes the Hayward TriStar 1 HP, Energy Efficient, Full Rated Pump SP3210EE is a self-priming pump.

I have a small pool (12,000 gallons). Thinking of changing my single speed pump which works fine right now to a variable speed pump but would that even be worth doing since my Hayward North Star 1hp pump is working fine just a little noisy. And if so what would be the best variable speed pump for my size of pool. I would like to stick with Hayward brand.
Reply
Hello, for you size pool and pump size. The Hayward Tristar VS Variable Speed Pump MODEL#SP3200VSP would be a good switch. Offering up to 90% energy cost savings over single-speed pool pump alternatives via an integrated variable-speed drive and totally-enclosed, permanent magnet motor, TriStar VS is an ideal pool upgrade for those looking to reduce energy use and save money.

Would you have any other suggestions besides the #sp3200vsp for my 12,000 gallon pool? I really don't want any thing that I would have to program myself.
Reply
I would best recommend the use of a dual speed pump or dual speed motor. If you are looking to save on the cost of energy consumption without tons of programming, click here to view dual speed pumps. If you decide to use the dual speed pump, most manufacturers will require it to tie into an additional timer to switch it from high and low. Click here to view the mechanical timer. You can also, replace the motor and shaft seal (sold separately). The two speed motor with the digital timer does not require a purchase of an additional timer. Click here to view. (5 out of 5 stars) Great pump for older pool w/ smaller lines
Reviewed By: Boomer from Washington (St. Louis area) Missouri ()
Pros: Quite and pumps as well as Hayward Super
Cons: Big: Make sure you have enough room to install
Was looking to upgrade my pump after 40 years(Had rebuilt the old Hayward a couple times and case was starting to have broken edges). Chose the Northstar series for its newer features. Wanted higher pressure, but learned that would probably blow my lines. Really like this pump.
