Hi, My 1.5 HP whisperflow is getting very hot while running. It's not grinding or smoking. Is this normal? When/if it fails, is there any benefit to upgrading to a 2HP? It's a single speed. Thank you.

A  Answered on 12/16/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Hi Jerome, yes these motors are supposed to run hot. As long as they do not shut down per the thermal overload switch then it is okay. I would suggest that if you ever upgrade the horsepower, to go with a variable speed motor so it can be adjusted. Too much HP could cause issues with the system.

I have a Pentair WF-26 011773 pool pump and it's starting to whine. What bearing do I need for this motor?

A  Answered on 6/13/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Your motor will take two of these 6203 Pool Motor Bearings. We have put together a couple of videos on How to Replace Pool Motor bearings which you may find helpful when you tackle this project. Video on How to Replace Motor Bearings - Part 1 and Video on How to Replace Motor Bearings - Part 2

Is this pump dual speed or variable speed? Thanks, Marc

A  Answered on 7/11/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Steve M.

Marc, the Whisperflo Pump 1 1/2 HP - WF-26, model number 011773 is a single speed pump. The comparable dual speed Whisperflo would be the Pentair Whisperflo Dual Speed Up Rate 1 1/2 HP Pump - WFDS-26

I have a WF-26 Pentair system. What's difference of lower hp motor to a higher hp motor? Also from a 1 speed to 2 speed system? Pros and cons?

A  Answered on 5/31/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi. The performance or water flow will be the difference between horsepowers. Single speed pump consumes more energy than a dual speed pump. The con of a dual speed with is plumbing restrictions, the low speed will not work with all pool types or applications if you have a high Total Dynamic Head (TDH).

how can I tell if my pump motor or pump has gone bad. when I turn the pump on a puff of smoke came from the rear of the motor and the breaker popped.

A  Answered on 6/4/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Stacey M.

Hello, either there is a type of wiring problem, please check with wires are connected properly and not broken or corroded.  It could be also since the breaker popped and smoke that something wasn't ground or connected which your motor is possibly compromised.

How much energy will this WF-26 Whisperflow pool filter use?

A  Answered on 4/27/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The WF-26 pump uses roughly 1,880 watts, if you run your pump 8 hours per day this equates to roughly 15.04 Killowatt Hours (kWh). The cost per kWh varies greatly based on the state you live in for example California and Hawaii are very expensive. If you take the national average of 13 cents per kWh you would spend $1.95 per day to run this pump 8 hours.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

A  Answered on 2/16/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.
