Hi, David. Yes, the o-ring does require pool and spa o-ring lubricant.

Does this include 1 or 2 unions? If one, does it matter if used on inlet or discharge side of pump? Thanks.

Hello- This is just one complete union and it does not matter which side of the pump it is installed on.

Installing a replacement pump for a water featiure.

Written on 11/26/2023 by Guest

Step 1: I cut the power on the failed pump
Step 2: Disconnected electrical connections from the pump power cable at the distribution box.
Step 3: using a pvc curing tool I cut the pipes on the suction and output side of the old pump
Step 4: Removed the failed pump..
Step 5: Wired a new power cable to the.new pump.
Step 6 Set the new pump in place.
Step 7: Hand tightened the lubricated MPT socket unions to both sides of the pump and measured for reconnection of new sections of PVC.
Step 8: Wired the pump power cable to the distribution box.
Step 9; Re-plumbed the PVC to the MPT connectors and let the PVC cement cure overnight.
Step 10: turned on the power to the pump and enjoyed an easy repair without leaks with the confidence that the connections at the pump will not expand with the heat of the pump and future repairs will be much simpler with unions at the pump adapters.

Persistent leak at Discharge Port of Super II pump housing

Written on 2/28/2019 by MaryLee N.

After several attempts at stopping the leakage at the pump housing discharge (Teflon tape, pipe joint compound) I decided to use this type of fitting. Removed old fitting, cleaned up the housing threads, lubed the new fitting with silicone lube and screwed into the pump housing. This did require some re-plumbing, but it was minor. This new fitting uses an o-ring seal to the pump housing and has proven to be leak free.
