I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!

You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/15/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

my stayright pool pump mpra6c-207L motor needs replaced. What motor do you recommend ? Do I need the tune up kit also?
 Reply

Hi, Jim. The MPRA6G-207L model pump will use the USQ1202 motor. There is not a tune up kit available for that pump so you will have to purchase the seal and o-ring separately which are all listed on the Sta-Rite Dyna Pro/ Dyna Pro E Pump Parts Diagram page.

Can I get this kit (GOKIT38) with this Shaft Seal PS-201V, 3/4" Shaft Size (PS-201V-CMS)? I am replacing the motor with A.O. Smith 1 H.P Square Flange Up Rate Motor - USQ1102 and have a saltwater pool and would like the extra protection. Thanks

We, unfortunately, do not carry the saltwater kit version of that seal kit so the saltwater main seal would have to be purchased separately.

Hi, Joe. We're unable to use the motor info to identify the pump's tune up kit. You will need to locate the pump housing model or name.

Hi, Greg. You have the Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas or Dura-Glas pump which required Tune Up Kit - GOKIT6 (Pre-1998 or w/ Seal Insert) or GOKIT54 (Post-1998 w/o Seal Insert).

Karen, I apologize, however the seals are specific to the pump side versus the motor portion. What is the brand and model number of the pump that your motor mounts to?

Hi Dale, the seal kit for your Sta-Rite Dura Glas/Max E Glas pool pump series is the GOKIT54. Be sure to remove the copper cone insert if you have one in the seal plate so that the shaft seal will fit.

I have found two different versions of this in my searches. One is a the GO-KIT38V (which appears to be for salt water pools) and another labeled GO-KIT38-9 (which I assume is for non salt water pools. Can anyone confirm this, and also, can anyone confirm what version this one is as it is only listed as GO-KIT38 without the additional designation?

Hello, this kit is for a standard chlorine swimming pool, Unfortunately, we do not carry the GOKIT38V however the only difference will be the saltwater heady duty shaft seal which is part number 5250-235

What is correct motor and rebuild kit for a Sta Rite P4RA6E-186L? Thanks. Tony

A  Answered on 10/26/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Hi Tony, often times these motors have been replaced from the original complete pump so to be sure, could you send us a few photos of your pump and motor? Please take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.

How long should the motor shaft seal last?

A  Answered on 11/9/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Megan C.

Hi George, the life of the shaft seal will vary depending on the pool chemistry, correct water levels in the pool, and pump maintenance.

The shaft seal can fail due to insufficient water levels ran through the pump, improper water chemistry, and if the seal plate & impeller on the pump are at 10+ years of age (hairline cracks on them too). They need to be replaced every 10-years along with the diffuser and impeller ring (not all pumps have impeller rings). Even simply mishandling the ceramic seal can cause failure almost immediately. We offer How to Replace a Shaft Seal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Moy34mj_7To&feature=em-subs_digest If you prefer you can replace the pump shaft seal and internal o-rings once per year as preventative maintenance, think of it as an oil charge for the car, except, you protecting the motor on the pump.

A  Answered on 7/13/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

The Dura-Glas (not Dura-Glas II) model would use part number GOKIT54. It is designed for Dura-Glas models manufactured since 1998, but it will work on older models if you remove the cone from the seal plate.

Hello, I was looking for the tune up kit once i replace my motor. The only numbers i could find were on the housing which are 17307-0010 and 17307-0010W. The pump that is attached is a Century B2848. The bearings went out after just a couple of years, any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello.  The part numbers 17307-0010 and 17307-0010W cross-reference to the Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Pump.   The Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro (Pre February 2015) - GOKIT79 contains the necessary seals and gasket to complete the motor replacement.    Please complete a visual comparison between the current pump and the Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Pump exploded parts diagram.
