I am replacing a Hayward S240 filter for which I installed a new Hayward 1.5" Vari-flow valve, last season. If I purchase the Pro Series Sand Filter (4.91 sq. ft.), can I hook this valve up to the new filter? (Is the spacing between side arms the same? Is the height from the bottom of the base of the filter to the side fittings the same? Are the fitting sizes the same? What is the price for a new Hayward Vari-flo 2" valve for this filter?

Hi, Duane. The Hayward Pro-Series Side Mount Sand Filter MODEL# S310S suggest installing valve part numbers SP710X62 and/or SP715X62. The Hayward S-240 Sand Filters suggest using the SPX710X32 and SPX0715X32. It is best recommended to use the valve that is suggested by the Manufacturer's schematics. Click here to view the schematics of MODEL S310S and click here to view the schematics of the S240.

Yes it would fit, you'll just have to match the right size ports. It'll either be 1.5" or 2"

Do you sell the valve required for the S310S filter?

Yes we do carry the valve for the Hayward S310S Sand Filter, if you have 1.5" plumbing going into your valve then you will require the 1.5" S310S Replacement Valve and if you have 2" plumbing going into your valve then you will require the 2" S310S Replacement Valve both of these valves are called multiport valves meaning they have 7 different positions the valve can be set to. There is also a more simple valve called a slide valve, the slide valve just has 2 positions filter and backwash. Here is the 2" Slide Valve for the S310S Filter the slide valve accepts 2" plumbing. So in short there are 3 valves that work on this filter and we carry all 3.

What size Hayward sand filter do I need for 10000 pool. The existing filter is a 4.9 but uses 300 pounds of sand and the 4.91 uses 500 confused. Pool is 22 years old.

Hi, Theresa. The tank size and shape determine the surface area and sand required. This size filter is sufficient for a 10,000 gallon pool.

Will this filter work on a pool that is 77000 gallons or would I need 2 of them?

Based on the volume of water and needing two we would recommend two of the Triton C-3 TRC140 36" Heavy Duty Commerical Sand Filter(w/ out valve) - Black - 140342 with the Tandem 4" Two Filter Piping Kit SCH 40 - 146402.

Hi Aaron unfortunately there is not a Hayward Sand filter that is sold online that would work. The Pentair would be a great option as notated in the earlier reply.

Check out the helpful tips in our guide on Is There Sand in Your Pool? for things to inspect to stop the sand from getting back into your pool.  Parts for your multiport valve are here if there is 1-1/2" plumbing or here if there is 2" plumbing on your Hayward S310S Pro Series - Side Mount Sand Filter.
