When should I change the sand in my filter?

You should change the sand in your filter every 5-7 years. You can generally tell that it is time if your pool water is not as clear as it normally is or when you notice the interval between backwashes is shorter. You can use > this guide to walk you through it.

What is the rated pump size to get the flow ratings as listed? (19,200 - 8hrs and 24,000 - 10hrs)

Hi, Al. The pump flow rate is based on the pool's Feet of Head. If you get us that info we can size a pump that would provide the appropriate flow rate.

Measuring filter height Do I include the tank stand or just measure from the bottom of the tank to the top of the valve switch? Not original owner and have no paperwork, but know the filter is from mid- to late-90's. Label says Tagelus, but tank is black and most resembles Cristal Flo II polyethylene top-mount six-position valve in current Pentair sand filter line. I cannot read the model spec section of the label well enough to determine if a model number is indicated. Thanks.

David. You will have to measure the total height of the unit including the base.

What size/ model pump is recommended for this filter?

Hi. You will need a pump that will generate a flow rate of 40 GPM or less. You can check out Inyo's How to Size a Pool Pump guide.

We need to replace the diverter gasket for our Tagelus/Pentair Sand filter p/n 144126 Serial #0105271110047S, upc#42856202 date Sept. 28, 2011, we also need to replace the 6 screws for the top, thank you for any help and specific part number we need. I live in St. Maarten Dutch side in the Caribbean, my pool supply company does not have the proper gasket and I am trying to locate it on the French side at AquaTec Pool supplies.

Hi Tamara, The diverter gasket is only sold glued into the diverter so you would require this Diverter W/ Glued in Diverter Gasket If you need the screws for the top then I would suggest this Complete Upper Handle Assembly as this will be the most economical way to purchase the needed parts.

i have a Pentair Tagelus TA-40D, and would like to replace entire top head/valve assembly, what is the proper replacement part#?

Hi Jay, the odds are that you need this valve, but we would need more information before we can give be certain.  Pentair had a few different versions of the valve on the Tagelus Fiberglass Sand Filter that were made over the years; you could have a V-Thread, Buttress, or Clamp Valve on it (see our article on What Is a V-Thread, Buttress, or Clamp Valve? to help identify it). Your Model D probably has the clamp-on valve, but we would need to verify the mount style and diameter of your plumbing before recommending a replacement.
