When the filter is dirty, the pressure in the filter builds indicating it needs to be cleaned. Since the gauge was not functioning and this event happened, you will need to be looking for damage to the filter tank as well as the valve assembly. Once you have that information, you will be able to determine if it would be better to replace damaged parts or to replace the entire unit.

my original pressure gauge has a dial that reads 0 to 40. Will a gauge with 0 to 60 perform the same function, only with a smaller scale (the 0-10 increment spacing is smaller on the 0-60 gauge than it is on the 0-40 gauge)

I've replaced this gauge in my Hayward Voyager Pro w/ CCX2000RE cartridge several times using identical replacement gauges bought at a local Big Box store, and I'm not satisfied with it (it mounts flat, directly in the housing). Isn't there a gauge that stands up on the housing, perhaps using an adapter?

Hi Larry, some of these gauges are original Hayward manufactured versions and others a generic manufacturer but essentially any bottom mount gauge will work.

Hi Leo, it may be that the gauge is defective or that your filter actually does run with a low PSI. As long as you have good suction and water pressure at your pool returns then I would not be concerned about it.
