are alll two speed pump 230V?

A     Answered on 7/12/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Glenn, Pretty much all of the dual speed pumps are 230V but there are a few variable speed pumps that are 115V like the Pentair 115V Super Flo Variable Speed Pump and the Hayward 115V Super Pump Variable Speed Pump. The Variable Speed pumps are an upgrade to dual speed as instead of just having a high and low speed they have thousands of speeds as you can set the pump anywhere between 700 RPM's to 3450 RPM's. You may also want to check with your power company as many times power companies offer big rebates for switching to a variable speed pump as they are extremely energy efficient.

I want/need to replace my SP2610x152 pump. It is a dual speed Hayward pump controlled by a Compool Cp3800 controller system. All the pumps I find now have an 'S' at the end of the model designation. I was under the impression that that meant ' w/switch'. My pump does not have a switch. Is the SP2610X152S still the correct replacement pump?

A     Answered on 11/28/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Rick. That is correct, the "S" indicates that the pump has a switch to manually adjust the speed of the pump and the SP2610X152S is the correct replacement.

how is pump speed changed

A     Answered on 8/17/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

Pump speed is changed by an external timer. Whether it be a simple dual speed timer or an automation system that would control the relays on set times.

Everything I read about VS pumps, I'm not sure I want to take a chance with the problems many have mentioned with the electronics. So, I'm now considering a 2 speed pump, even though it's almost close in price to the VS. My current setup is a Hayward 1.5 hp Super II, S-244T filter, Intellichlor 40 on 1.5" plumbing. Vac is a Barracuda G35 and using an Intermatic T104R Is there a real advantage with the 2 speed and if so should I purchase the 1hp or 1.5hp & do I need to change the timer

1 HP Heyward pump for my 24,000 gal in-ground pool gone bad. Any advantage to replacing it with 1.5 HP and/or 2-speed motor? Also, how many hours per day should we run it? Is there a timer available for this or do we control it manually? Thanks, Russell

A     Answered on 3/26/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Russell, The only advantage is that you will increase the water flow, however if your filter and system can not support the additional water flow then it's not worth it. Going with a dual speed has advantages, like lower operational cost better filtration quality. You will need to get the T106R Dual Speed timer so that you do not have to manually switch the pump from Hi/Low. With a 1.5HP dual speed pump you can run it for like 10-12 hrs daily depending on how long you run it on high speed.

I have been purchasing about 4 dual speed pumps a month from you since Dec, 2014. The very first pump I ordered has been running fine at one of my customers houses until last week. It now will not start in LOW speed when the timer tells it too??? If I switch it to HIGH speed, it fires up everytime? When I have it on LOW speed all that happens is the motor hums but does not circulate, why is this? Please answer soon, thanks

Check for a bad capacitor. You may have two: a run capacitor and a start capacitor. Some motor have a governor at the electrical end of the shaft. Check that it is not stuck open. If your capacitor(s) and governor are good and the motor shaft rotates easily you probably have a burned out motor coil and you will need to repair or replace the motor.

I have an "SP4010x152NS" northstar pump. can't find anywhere what is suitable replacement?

A     Answered on 7/7/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

Hello Richard Hayward has discontinued their Northstar line and have replace them with Tristars. The pump you would need to match what you have is the SP32152EE

Can I just buy the motor. The housing is okay

A     Answered on 7/5/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Keith, The A.O. Smith 1-1/2 HP Round Flange Dual Speed Full Rate Motor (STS1152R) will be the correct replacement motor for the Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 HP Dual Speed (SP2610X152S). I would also recommend getting a Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit (GOKIT3).

Hi, can this pump be used with a salt water chlorinator [generator] made in South Africa by Justchlor which requires a salt level of 6000ppm by weight, yes I know most USA systems call for 3500ppm. After 27 months my pump motor bearing is whining badly and I presume the shaft seal has gone, I see Hayward has a kit with a salt shaft seal, do you stock this pump "salt ready" if this is what I need?

A     Answered on 9/17/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The SP2610X15 is a 1.5HP 230/115v single speed pump that can be used with salt water pools. The main issue with a higher salt ppm level is that the salt will corrode the rubber seals and any metals that it comes in contact with at a quicker rate. Unfortunately the pump does not come "salt ready". You would have to purchase a salt water tune up kit separately. I recommend changing the shaft seal every season with a salt water pool to prevent shaft seal failure.

How many hours per day should I run my pump?

A     Answered on 10/8/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

How does the dual speed feature of this pump work?

A     Answered on 6/15/2006 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Some dual speed pumps have a toggle switch in the back of the motor to change speeds manually, but many do not. Generally you would need to tie this dual speed pump into one of our dual speed pump timers/controllers. One of the more popular models is the Digital PE153 series. This timer has 3 functions: one to turn the pump on and off, a second auxiliary to switch from high speed to low speed, and then a thirdĀ for any other piece of pool equipment. You may view these controllers through the following link: Intermatic Timers
