What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/4/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Tony, To determine which motor you would require we would need to know the model of the pump itself, this should be on the side of the pump near the basket. We would need the manufacture name and model # of the pump. Examples of the Manufacture would be Hayward, Pentair, Purex, Sta Rite, Jacuzzi, etc... Examples of model names would be Super Pump, Super II, Whisperfo, Magnum, Dura Glas etc.. Please provide this information along with any of the following information Horse Power, Volts, SF, RPM & Amps and we will be able to determine which motor you would need.

I see the "tune-up" kit contains the motor shaft seal which is essential to be replaced with the motor, but also contains a housing gasket, diffuser gasket, and pump lid o-ring. Do all of these need to be replaced with the motor? If think the housing gasket is for the impeller housing (not the motor), the pump lid o-ring goes on the clear plastic lid which screws on the basket in front of the impeller (also not related to the motor) and I'm not sure what the diffuser gasket is for.
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/17/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Michael, The kit contains o-ring associated with the pump. Since the motor is more or less generic (it fits onto multiple pumps), the seals would all be based off and related to the pump. There is usually a shaft seal that goes behind the impeller and in the seal plate (part of the pump that bolts to the front of the motor), the diffuser o-ring is for the cone like part that goes over the impeller, the housing gasket which is for the body where the two halves of the motor match up. It is highly recommended that you change the shaft seal every time you take off the impeller. As for all the other seals, they are recommended but optional, it just gives you a change to do a complete overhaul on all the gaskets on that pump.

To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

Pool running at high pressure (20-30) off &on for >3y. Replaced grids mult times. Is pump installed the right one for system. Pool is approx 14k gal w/48sf DE filter (label image provided). Plumbing system has 1 1/2 pvc. Unsure if TDH calc correctly. May be around 64. Pool is kidney shape with L29', W15' and W11'; Avg depth of 5.5'. This should give roughly 29 gpm flow rate. Would having a pump too big cause high pressure? I have provided the motor specs in an image also. Thanks for your help!

 Reply

A  Answered on 6/24/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Edna. The pump is sufficient for your size DE filter. As for the high pressure, due to the very green pool, the filter will need to be backwashed constantly until the pool is cleaned.
 Reply

  • Commented on 6/25/2019 by Product Owner

Thanks for your reply. Previous backwashing has not resolved the high pressure. Even drained the pool. Recently added Purge, no change in the pressure and is running at 8 psi with grids removed. Is it possible for a tree root to penetrate the plumbing of the pool? Has to be another issue causing the high pressure. Pump is the last thing on your blog left to try. Plumber is coming to scope the lines. If that shows clear, what else could it be? The motor was rebuilt a couple of years ago.

Hi Scott, This is NOT the correct replacement motor for the motor included in your photo. You will also require this Max E Glas II Seal Kit when you replace your motor.  We also put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Hi, if this SQ1102 1 HP motor will NOT fit my Sta-Rite Max E Glas II pump, what is the correct motor that will fit this pump? I need a motor and so far the website has not helped me determine the exact one I need. Attached is the current motor tag again to help determine the proper motor I need, Thanks

The single peed replacement motor for your motor is the model QC1072 that you can view by clicking here. The seal kit would be part number GOKIT38 that you can view by clicking here

Hello, could you send us a few photos of your pump and motor? Please take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.

I need to replace the motor for my Anthony pump. The label on the motor has worn off so I'm not sure of the type or the power. I took it apart and there was part number on the impeller: C105-138PEC. The diagram on your site led me to this 1 HP pump. Can you please confirm that this is the right pump? I ask because this one is about a half inch longer and doesn't have the capacitor housing on top like my current one. Also can you let me know what else I may need to replace the motor?

I have a Sta-Brite pump model number P2RA5E-124 Code # 1K87D will this motor work with it?

Hi Laurel, You will actually need the USQ1102 Replacement motor and not the SQ1102 replacement motor. When replacing your motor you will need this Sta-Rite Dura Glas Seal Kit Pre 1998 or this Sta-Rite Dura Glas Seal Kit 1998 and after. If you don't know if your pump is from before or after 1998 then we put together this Video on How to Determine if your Sta-Rite Pump is Before or After 1998.

What is the flow rate (gallons per minute) of a Century SQ1102, 1 HP pool pump.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/21/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello Octavio.  Flow rate (gallons per minute) information is tied to the Manufacturer/Model of the specific Pump.  Single-speed motors, like the SQ1102, rotate at (3450rpm), but it is the impeller, diffuser and pump design that determines the flow rate.  Please provide pump manufacturer/model information and the flow rate can be determined.

Hi Edward, it might be time to replace your old K48L2PA105 with this 1.0 HP Full Rate Motor - QC1102 on your Anthony Centrifugal Pool Pump.  We recommend also replacing the motor shaft seal with this OEM shaft seal as well as the seal plate o-ring and the diffuser seal ring.  Be sure to put some lubricant on the new o-rings to keep them leak-free for a long time.

i believe i have a sta rite pool pump model p2ra5e-181l from what I can read on label, the motor has gone bad, would this motor work to replace? Do i need a 56y or 48y how would i determine the difference?

A  Answered on 10/11/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Rich N.

Hi Tim, it looks like you may not have the original motor on that pump - this Century 1.0 HP Square Flange 48Y Up Rate Motor - USQ1102 would be the same as the motor that was originally there.  The 48 and 56 barrel sizes are interchangeable as long as the frame shape matches, which this one does.  See our article on What Does My Pump Motor’s Frame (FR) Rating Mean? for a better explanation.  Manufacturers have slowly but surely started to include a rubber gap filler in 48-frame motors to make it fit when replacing a 56-frame motor, since the 48-frame motors are 1" smaller in diameter.  It will be a perfect replacement!

Hello Joel, the correct single speed replacement motor options for the original Sta Rite Max E Glass pump model P4E6E-151L are the QC1102 or the B2841V1. We also recommend replacing the seals and gaskets when replacing a pool pump motor. Here are the possible kits you can use for your pump. They are based on the year manufactured.
