Hi Bill, This pump can be used as a replacement if it can provide enough water flow to utilize the solar panels.

I think have a Hayward Max-Flo XL 1 1/2 pool pump. After 22 years of use all the labels have worn and rusted through. Both the pump and the motor. We have a 14 x 28 ft inground pool. The PVC plumbing is 1 1/2 in.. It's wired for 220v. Would 1 hp motors up to 2 hp motors all fit the pump ? The bearings were REALLY starting to squeal and I accidently let some of the smoke out of the motor. I don't know where to start and my wife keeps a close eye on $$$ Thank You for hearing me. Mack

Hi, James. A 3/4 HP to 2 HP motor can fit onto your existing pump. You will just need to replace the impeller to match the hp of the motor.

I have a 27000 gallon pool with a one HP max-flo xl pump installed new in 2013. The motor needs to be replaced. I think the system could benefit from a higher rate of flow. Questions: 1) would an upgrade to 1 1/2 HP motor increase flow significantly, 2) is the 1 1/2 HP motor a direct fit into the current pump housing (I really don't want to get into plumbing issues) and 3) what else changes, impeller, seals, gaskets?

Hi Murray, If you currently have a 1 HP motor then yes you would see a significant increase in flow by going with a 1.5 HP motor. The items you would need to upgrade to 1.5 HP would be this 1.5 HP Max Flo XL Motor this Hayward Max Flo XL Shaft Seal and  this Hayward Max Flo XL 1.5 HP Impeller

Hi Victor, there are a number of variables to consider when sizing equipment. Here is a guide that we put together called "How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool" and also a guide called "How To Size a Pool Filter" that should assist. You may want to also at least consider having a CPC( certified pool contractor) perform a site evaluation for you.

I have an 18000 gallon in ground pool that is 30 years old. It has a Hayward super pump ll set up. All numbers are gone and motor bearings just went out (4th time). I’m ready for a new motor. Pump seem to work well. What do I need if I purchase a 1 HP motor? Is that big enough?

Hi Mark, could you send us a few photos of your pump and motor? Please take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.
