Hi there I am wanting to replace the pump in the attached picture with a variable speed pump and I am wondering if this pump will work. Please let me know. Thanks

Hi, Steve. This B2980T motor is no longer available. You can use the ECM16SQU - Variable Speed Motor.

I have a 1 HP single speed motor now. Can I substitute a 3/4 HP dual speed pump and run it longer?

A  Answered on 10/28/2019 by Industry Professional

We do not know what pump you have to determine whether you need to change the impeller but Yes, you should be able to use this motor for a 1 hp with a 1.25 service factor single speed replacement.

Will this motor work with a STA-Rite MPRA6F-148L? It has a 2HP motor attached to it.

Hi, Marcus. Unfortunately, this motor is too small to be used with your original pump.

I purchased the B975T 1hp/.10hp variable speed motor in May of 2017 (now discontinued.) Yesterday, it was much louder, and now the bearings seem to need replacing. As opposed to repairing, would this motor be a suitable replacement?

A  Answered on 7/10/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, George.  You can use the following options, (1) B2975 motor along with the T106R or T10604R dual speed controller, (2) ECM16CU - V-Green 1.65 HP Round Flange 56J Variable Speed Motor.

Yes, the B2980T is a good replacement for the QC1072 single speed square flange.

?     Asked on 6/9/2019by Gregg

Is this a direct replacement for my Century part # 7-196443-05?

A  Answered on 6/10/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Gregg, This is not a direct replacement for the B2982 in your photo. You would require the B2982 1 HP Dual Speed Replacement Motor, unfortunately the B2982T with Digital Controller has been discontinued so your motor is not available with a digital controller. We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could a photo then a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

Here is the pump The pump is 25 years old Should I consider replacing the whole assembly? I saw the PureLine PL 2605. Would that work for me?

    • Commented on 6/12/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Gregg, You have a Hayward TriStar and you would require this Hayward TriStar Seal Kit. Yes I would consider the PureLine PL2605 Variable Speed Pump you will save a ton on your operational costs with a variable speed pump. The plumbing ports on the PureLine Prime are not in the exact same spot as your current pump so you will have a little re-plumbing if you go that route.

I have a Sta-Rite P4EA6E-186L pump. I replaced the original motor with a Marathon imPower RB003 3-speed motor (we only used 2 of the 3 speeds - fast and slow) whose electronics have gone haywire. Based on the imPower specs this 2-speed motor looks like the perfect replacement. The imPower maximum power is 1.25HP (1HP x 1.25 SF). This motor is also 1.25HP (.75 x 1.67 SF). Will this motor work for me and should I be concerned about the difference in HP vs. SF if the total is the same?

A  Answered on 9/20/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, this motor would work as a replacement. Just keep in mind that this is a 230 volt and also that it has a 56y frame.

is it possible to just buy the digital timer? my pump works fine but the digital display on the timer has stopped working (water got under the plastic on the display) so now I cant set or reset my timer. I also have an old timer on the wall that still works, can I somehow bypass the timer on the pump and use the other timer that I already have?

A  Answered on 7/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

Jana, Unfortunately, the timer can not be replaced. You can use a wall timer to turn the motor on and off but you will not be able to control the high and low speeds.

I got this pump as a replacement. My old pump did not have the impeller ring (white ring) when I pulled it off and the new one did not come with one. Is that on purpose? Do I now need to buy an impeller ring? Also, the new pump has 3 electric leads, plus the ground. They are labeled ground, L1, L2, and A. My wiring has a ground wire, red, and black. obviously one if the leads will not have a wire attached, which one? The owners manual is all about the timer, nothing about installation.

A  Answered on 4/28/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Seth. If your original pump did not have an impeller ring then your pump does not require one. To wire this motor you will need the two hot line and the ground, you will not use the wire that goes to the A terminal. Because these motors can be used on several different pump installation instructions can vary.

I'm looking to replace the motor on our Max-E-Glass II P4E6E-187L pump. It currently has a B2953 P56Y 1 hp 1.25 SF motor. Will this work? We're looking at replacing the current motor with something much more efficient.

A  Answered on 3/23/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

The correct dual speed with timer motor that you would use if you currently are using the original motor or matching would be the B2982T. You could also use a variable speed motor which would be the ECM16SQU. The first is a wider motor so you would not need the motor pads or stand but the second fits the same as the original. Also it would be wise to replace the seals and gaskets using the gokit38.

My system already has a timer and had a single speed motor. This motor comes with its own digital timer so when I replace it, what do I do with the already installed timer? Do I have to rewire or how to I set my old timer?

A  Answered on 2/29/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi TN, You can either bypass the current timer completely and wire the motor directly from the breaker or you can keep the old timer in place and use the wires to run power to this motor but remove the trippers so that the timer does not turn on/off constantly feeding power to the motor.

Your site has a guide on measuring the pool size and use the Gallon/minute to purchase the correct motor size. But all these motor I looked at doesn't have the GPM rating. How do I get the GPM for a motor, specifically this model?

A  Answered on 2/25/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello, The gallon per minute rating (GPM) is determined by the pump not the motor. To find out the gpm of B2980T Pool Motor Square Flange 3/4 HP 230V Full Rate Dual Speed w/ Digital Controller we would need to know the model of the pump that you will be installing this motor on.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

?     Asked on 1/12/2012by Guest

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.
