How does the dual speed feature of this pump work?

Some dual speed pumps have a toggle switch in the back of the motor to change speeds manually, but many do not. Generally you would need to tie this dual speed pump into one of our dual speed pump timers/controllers. One of the more popular models is the Digital PE153 series. This timer has 3 functions: one to turn the pump on and off, a second auxiliary to switch from high speed to low speed, and then a third for any other piece of pool equipment. You may view these controllers through the following link: Intermatic Timers

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Hello the pump you would be best to go with if you have 1 1/2 inch lines you should go with SuperFlo 340042

My electrician just installed the wfds24. It runs on low speed but high speed trips the breaker. Could you send me a wiring diagram of the switch and motor. Any ideas?

Wiring for Whisperflo Dual Speed 230 VAC Wiring As you know in a 230 VAC configuration there is no "Neutral" or sometimes called a "Common" wire. Both of the "Supply" or "Source" wires carry voltage. Actually 115 VAC each, Hence 230 VAC. But remember that the two 115 VAC wires are 180 degrees "Out of Phase". Also explained in "The Manual" One of the supply wires is connected to the L2 connection of the pump. The other supply wire is toggled between the low and high speed connection on the Pump to change speeds and is controlled by whatever, IntelliTouch, Intermatic.................In fact you could accomplish this with two toggle switches, or two relays :) 115 VAC wiring Every thing is the same EXCEPT, The second supply wire is the "Neutral" or "Common" wire. We only have one 115 VAC supply wire.

I have the Pentair WFDS-8 #011523 pump 2HP I notice there is a switch on the outside motor end, For high and low power? When I toggle the switch up or down, I don't notice any difference in the sound of the pump, and it is very difficult to tell if the return water output is any stronger or weaker. What position is up/down = high/low? Should I be hearing/seeing/noticing a lot of difference between toggle positions?

Hi G, If the motor is on low speed the water flow will weaker than on high speed. I would check to see if the motor is wired to the switch or wired for dual speed.

GWilliams, It sounds like you are only running the pump at high speed. With a dual speed pump, the idea is to run the motor at the lower rpm for a longer period of time.

I have a Pentair WhisperFlo WFE-4 1HP 1.65SF and I would like to replace it with a dual speed pump. Is this a viable replacement? Also if there are other brands/models you recommend. Thanks.

You can use either Whisperflo models WFDS-26 or WFDS-4. Being that you have a Whisperflo, I would either stay within that series or consider the Pureline Prime model PL2607.

Hi. The B2981 motor is a suitable replacement. You will also need to get the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.
