Is the Pureline Prime Variable Speed Pool Pump 1.65 HP a direct replacement for my existing Hayward Super Pump Model SP3010X15AZ? Also, cant the controller on the Pureline Variable Speed Pump be remotely located?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/31/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The PureLine Prime would not be a direct replacement to the Super II as the plumbing ports are in a slight different location meaning you might have some minor re-plumbing. The controller on this variable speed pump cannot be mounted remotely, it is affixed directly to the motor. This pump would be a great option as a replacement for the Hayward Super II.

To meet the Energy Star specification, the pool pump must have an Energy Factor (EF) – a measure of efficiency – of 3.8 or greater. At this time, all variable-speed pool pumps do meet the minimum Energy Factor rating of 3.8 and qualify for Duke Energy’s rebate.

I think the PL2605 would be a great option for you, especially if you are running the pump 24/7 as you can run the pump at lower speeds for longer periods of time saving your on your operational costs. You may also want to install a Pool Timer which would allow you to schedule the pump to come on and off at certain time of the day allowing you to run for say 12 hours and not 24 hours.

Hi Michael, No if you install the PureLine on your own, then the warranty is not voided. I like the 2.7 HP Variable Speed PureLine Prime as it gives that extra HP just in case you need it. You still have the lower HP range that you can use for everyday filtration and this will really cut down on your operational cost.

A  Answered on 6/7/2017 by Product Owner

I wired ours direct and turn it on/off with the breaker. It is wired with saltwater system. It seems to do a pretty good job remembering the previous setting every time I turn it on. I only use the preset (1-2-3) or "Override" setting which is max speed, but on Override you can customize the speed. It usually remembers the preset but sometimes I have to hit the Start button. I love this pump. It was a direct fit for the old Hayward I replaced this year and was easy to install. It is quiet and does a great job pushing water. I do have to keep it on Override or setting 1 to push enough pressure for the heater to work.

Hi Peggy, Thanks for the question! Based on all the info. you supplied I would suggest the PurelIne Prime PL2606 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pump The nice thing about the PL2606 is that you have the ability to ramp the pump all the way up to 2.7 HP if you need to for things like vacuuming, spa jets, water features, solar, etc... but for the vast majority of the time you will have the pump dialed down to a very low HP for general pool filtration and this is where you will see all of your energy savings. Typically you can see a savings of 50% - 75% operational cost savings over a single speed pump. I hope this helps!

Dennis, A variable speed would run almost constantly on a lower rpm without the need for a timer. You would control the rpms using the drive that is on top of the motor. A timer would only turn the pump on and off.

Hello, Lori. The PL2605 will work for you based off of your current pump. However, I would not recommend running it at higher RPMs for extended periods of times due to the fact that it has a stronger HP than your current pump, which can damage your system. The warranty on this unit is 18 months for the motor and 12 months for the pump housing.

Hi Tony, My suggestion would be this PureLine Prime 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pump. I really like this pump as it will save you a ton on your operational costs. The variable speed pumps also give you a lot of flexibility as they allow you run the pump from any RPM level between 600 - 3450 unlike single speed pumps where they run a the max RPM's of 3450 whenever they are turned on. This pump has 2" ports like your current whisperflow pump so you should be all set with your plumbing, however if you do need to use a reducer that is fine and would not be a problem.

We will need to know if your motor is full rated or an uprated model. That will affect the best variable speed pump we'd recommend. I was reading that a variable speed unit would accomplish this. Do you have a recommendation? This is an inground 10,000 gallon sport pool with a Jacuzzi sand filter with a max working pressure of 50 psi. There is also a Trane heat pump in line with the system. Thank you. Phil
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/12/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Phil, This will be an awesome pump for the set up you explained. The Prime has 2" plumbing like your Jacuzzi Magnum, the plumbing ports are not in the exact same spot but they are close, meaning you will just have some minor re-plumbing. You are correct you will see big energy savings by going with a variable speed pump. With a variable speed pump you will have a full range of HP you can dial the pump into anywhere from .5 HP to 1.65 HP so for the majority of the time you will try to run the HP as low as possible to save on energy but you always have the ability to ramp up the HP as needed for things like vacuuming.

Flow rate fell from 90 gpm to 50 gpm and then ceased pumping all together. The pressures are with clean diatomaceous earth filters. What parts do I need to rebuild the pump?

Hello Kevin- Typically priming issues are caused by suction leaks in your plumbing or a bad o-ring on your pump lid or diverter valves. Below is a link to a step by step guide on what to look for:http://www.inyopools.com/HowToPage/how_to_determine_why_a_pool_pump_won_t_prime.aspx

Would this pump be suitable for replacing a Jacuzzi Magnum 1000 pump. I have a 23000 gallon pool where there’s only a skimmer, an indirect return from the Pool bottom to the skimmer and just the two jets all on 1.5” plumbing? The pump is at same level as the pool but is 70ft away from skimmer and 50ft from the return jets. I have a 300lb sand filter and teledyne pool heater tied in. I plan to add 3-4 10ftx4ft solar panels in the near future that’ll be 12ft above the pump. Pool is perfectly clear

Hi, Gary. This pump will not be a suitable replacement for a Magnum 1000 Pump because they're two different styles of pumps which performs differently. You will need a high head variable speed pump like the Hayward Tristar VS Variable Speed Pump - SP3202VSP.

I notice on this pump the top RPM is 3450..I think my current motor is a single speed which is 3450 RPM.. will the variable have a problem with the flow rate that the heat pump needs to operate? I noticed that once the PSI got up to about 23PSI (which I assume lowered the flow rate) the heat pump had a issue with flow..not enough. I'm guessing with anything less than 3450 RPM the heat pump won't work..any thoughts?

A  Answered on 9/7/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Dan. Operating this pump at a lower RPM can provide insufficient water flow to the heater. You will have to make sure that the motor is operating at the proper RPM in order to activate the water pressure switch on the heat pump.

Hi Mike, We would suggest the PureLine Prime Variable Speed Pump for your set up as it would work great. The decision you need to make is if you want to go with the 1.65 THP PL2605 or the 2.7 THP PL2606. Your current pump has a THP of 2.2 which is quite a bit higher than what is needed for a 22,000-gallon pool. With this being said I would suggest the PL2605 PureLine Prime 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pump. Here is a link to the various Frog Systems that would work for your pool.

The piping is 1.5 inch. From most of the advice I've seen online, it seems like my current pump/piping may be undersized - but it was installed 18 years ago, and it's always performed well. I run the pump 24/7 during the swim season. Is the PL2605 suitable for this?

Hi Jeff, Yes the PL2605 PureLine Prime would be a great replacement for your 1 HP Hayward Super Pump. You will have the ability to dial the pump up to 1.65 HP if you ever need to, however, the beauty of a variable speed pump is you can really dial down the HP for your general pool filtration and you will save a ton your operational cost, up to 80%! The PL2605 will be a drop in replacement for your Super Pump with the exception of the plumbing ports the Prime has 2" Ports where the Super Pump has 1.5" ports however standard 2" Male x 1.5" Slip adapters will allow you to adapt easily without any issue.

I have no idea how to calculate it, there's currently copper piping that we think we're going to have to replace. so even if I could calculate tdh, it would change as I'm replacing the piping with PVC

I’m looking to replace a single speed motor with 56Y square flange. 15,000 gallon 16x32 oval pool. Have been using 3/4 HP (total HP 1.39) AO single speed motor with a Hayward Tristar pump. (Hayward Pro Series s244s foams filter). Have always felt it’s too much for the pool size. What variable speed (motor only) would you suggest for a replacement that will fit the Tristar pump?

Hi Flip, We would suggest this 1.65 HP Variable Speed Replacement Motor for your Hayward TriStar. We suggest this Hayward Tristar Tune Up Kit when replacing your motor.

This model pump has an internal 24 hour clock but not an actual timer, however, you can connect this to an Intermatic timer for that. We currently are out of stock on these until late this year/early next year and you may be able locate a reward code coupon discount code on our Facebook page from a PC.

Need to replace motor of failing Pentair WF-24. While we could just replace the motor. Considering Upgrading to a variable speed and salt water system. Pool is ~12,000 gal 15x30 average 4 feet deep (rounding up) suggestion as to best option? Considering: PureLine Prime Variable Speed Pool Pump 1.65 HP - PL2605 Pool Salt System 40,000 Gallons - PL7700

Hi, John. The WF-24 - Whisperflo 1 HP Pump will outperform this PL2605 - Prime Pump.  To confirm if this PL2605 variable speed pump will work, you will need to calculate the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of your pool.

Hi John after reviewing your information and your photo this 1.65 HP PureLine Prime Variable Speed Pump would be a great replacement pump for you, the plumbing ports on the PureLine Prime are not in the exact same spot as your current pump so you will have a little re-plumbing

This would be a great replacement pump for your current pump, the plumbing ports on this pump are not in the exact same spot as your current pump so you will have a little re-plumbing, but it should be nothing major.

I have a 12x12 SpaPool that's 3.5ft deep and need better water movement and cleaning suction, currently have a 1.25hp pump that is not so good, want to upgrade to a variable speed and 1.5hp, what do you recommend?

Hi, Miami22. In order to recommend a replacement pump, we will need to know the current filter size, pump model and or the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of your SpaPool. Not all pumps are designed the same hydraulically.

I have a failing Pentair MPRA6G-155L, which is a 2-HP pump. It runs my pool and doodads pretty forcefully. I would like to get a variable-speed pump, but it seems like the only options are 3-HP, which is clearly overkill, and below 2-HP. I can't find info on the flow rate of the Pentair. Do you know whether your pump would be a good replacement?

Please provide more information about the pool. How big is the pool? What are the dimensions of the pool? What is the brand and model number of the filter? Do you have a heater? How far does the pool equipment sit away from the pool?

My Ecostar Hayward SP3200VSP will not start, just makes a clicking noise and gives pump error. I've had this 2HP pump since Oct 2012 and has given me no problems but it has probably reached EOL at almost 7 yrs. Due to so many not so good reviews of a Hayward replacement, I'm considering a change to Pureline as recommended by INYOPools since it seems to be a good choice. Any comments appreciated . . .tks

Hi, Stephen. The Pureline Prime is a great choice, however, compared to the SP3200VSP, the Prime 2.7 HP VSP - PL2606 would be a better option as far as performance.

Yes, the PureLine Prime 1.65 HP VS is the best replacement for a Pentair Super Flo 1 HP. There will be some slight replumbing needed but flowrates are in-line with your current set up.

We have a 20' x 40'x 5' avg depth inground pool (30,000 gal) with 2 jets and a swimout with 2 more jets. Currently there's a hayward 3/4hp single speed pump and I would like to replace it with a variable speed, pump. first question: 1. Are there dc variable pumps available? If not, what do you suggest for best performance and best power efficiency? (current pump costs $200/month to run) looking to reduce that!

A  Answered on 9/13/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Our pumps will run off of AC and if you just replace the motor, depending on the model Hayward pump that you have, you may be able to use the motor model ECM16CU or the ECM16SQU. As far as complete variable speed pumps that we currently have in stock that match your total HP requirements you can consider the model 342001 or maybe the model PL2606

I have a pump that is using too much energy and doesn’t have much pressure. The wet end is a Hayward with 2” plumbing. My pool is approximately 35000 gallons. Will this pump be sufficient if I reduce the plumbing to 1.5”?

 Reply

A  Answered on 12/3/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello Lance.  Transitioning to a Variable Speed Pump will reduce power consumption and lower electrical costs.  Power consumption is reduced by lowering pump RPMs, which results in a lower volume of water being circulated through the piping system (lower pressure at the return jets).  The maximum volume of water being circulated is tied to, among other variables, pipe diameter.  Reducing pipe diameter will increase pressure but reduce volume. It is possible to reduce the return jet diameter to accomplish an identical result.  A replacement VS pump should be equal to or greater in horsepower to the existing single speed.  A recommendation:  Minimum 2.0 HP VS Pump with 2" port size.   Waterway Power Defender 270 Variable Speed Pool Pump     Hayward TriStar VS Pump 2.7 HP
