I had a Vgreen 270 that had the bearings fail after warranty expired. I am replacing it with a Vgreen 165 and want to use the user interface from the 270 that is already wall mounted but I can’t find any instructions on how to install it. Is it just a matter of plugging the user interface into the Jack on the 165 and program the interface or is there additional settings on the 165?

Hello Harold.  According to the manufacturer, Century, the User Interface from the V-Green model 270 is not transferable to the V-Green model 165.  The Century V-Green 270 User Interface, part number 2520652-001, is the compatible upgrade for the V-Green model 165.  Although similar in appearance to the user interface installed on the model 270, the wiring harnesses for each are dissimilar.   V-Green 270 User Interface - 2520652-001

Hi Jeff, You will have 2 options, Option #1 would be to replace with the exact same motor and controller you currently have which would be this Hayward Power-end Assembly for SP23520VSP MaxFlo VS I would suggest this route if you are using a Hayward indoor control system like the Prologic or Aqualogic as you can control all the speeds for the pump from the indoor controller. If you are not using one of these indoor controllers then the ECM16SQU motor on this page would work just fine. For either option, you will also need this Hayward Max Flo Shaft Seal.

Trying to find a more efficient and quieter motor and pump combo for a coy fish pond that runs 24/7. Current motor is a Century Centurion 7-177450-03 at 1 HP. Would this ECM16SQU be the most efficient replacement for the motor? I like that we can turn it to a slower speed when the fish are sleeping at night and don't need the same levels of oxygen. For the pump and impeller side, is there something quieter? Part is 011513 PMP WFE-4. Lots of gurgling noises right now.

Is it on a 24 hour cycle?, thus in order to get it to start at 8:30 am I have to hit the start button on the next run day at the appropriate start up time that is @ 8:30 am. Hello Ernest.  Some programming notes;  Please be certain the total time of programming for Speed and Duration 1-3 does not exceed 24 hours.  The V-Green 1.65 programming cycle is 24hours, then repeats itself.  To adjust the start time of the 24-hour cycle, start the motor at the desired time of day.  The motor will then start at that same time moving forward.   There are a few circumstances that would interrupt this schedule.  Attached please find a "How to Program a V-Green 165 Motor Manually From its Pad."   How to Program a V-Green 165 Motor Manually From Its Pad

I was looking at the cheaper replacement motor, however I am leaning toward the variable speed and energy efficiency that this pump has to offer. My concern was with the current setup being a 56Y frame and the replacement appears to be a 48Y frame. Also would I need a seal kit like the GOKIT32. Thank you for the Help.

Hi, Sim Yes this variable-speed motor would work on your 1/2 HP Pentair Whisperflo Pump. If you wanted to take advantage of the higher speeds of this motor then I would suggest upgrading to a 1-1/2 HP Whisperflo Impeller and yes you will need this GOKIT32 Whisperflo Tune-Up Kit

Hello, I have a pentair whisperflo WFE-26 with a 1.5(1.65)hp AO Smith motor that failed. I'd like to replace it with a more efficient motor that can reuse the pump which is in good shape. I am not sure whether this would be powerful enough for the original impeller. Could you advise on whether this motor would work best or if you recommend an alternative motor? Thanks, Mike

Hello Mike.  The Century V-Green 1.65 HP square flange variable speed motor is an energy-efficient motor and is an excellent replacement for your single speed.  It will fit the existing pump housing and is compatible with the existing impeller.  When transitioning to a new motor, additional parts are necessary.  A GOKIT will provide the necessary items.  Attached please find that information.  There are 2 varieties; one is for standard chlorine pools.  The other is for saltwater pools.   Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Saltwater - GOKIT32SALT   Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo - GOKIT32

Hello Bob.  Yes, this would be a replacement for the 1 HP Impower VS square flange motor.  The Century V-Green 1.65 HP motor has a slightly greater HP which is compatible.  The correct shaft seal is determined by the pump model.  Please provide that additional information either via new text or pictures of the entire pump inclusive of the plumbing connections in order to identify which Hayward pump model is currently installed.

If you have a unit that is 2hp and higher we would suggest the V-Green 2.7 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM27SQU. Any time replacing a motor we also suggest the Tune Up Kit Hayward for TriStar/EcoStar - GOKIT81

Greetings. My pump motor is screeching and probably needs new bearings. I would like to entertain the idea of moving from the single speed to a variable speed motor in order to save on electricity but still perform the cleaning needs of my pool. See attached pics. I have a Sta Rite P2R pump assembly beneath a Harmsco BetterFilter 84BKM cartridge filter. The PVC pipes are 1.5". I also have a Polaris 180 pool cleaner with separate booster pump. Pool is about 15k gallons. Recommendation?

Yes, the current electrical setup is 230V. My current pump motor is only 1.25 hp.....ECM16SQU shows as 1.65 hp. Would that extra hp be a problem or would just running at the programmed reduced RPM's be ok? Any chance you have a variable speed motor that is 1.25 hp?

So you would actually be losing horsepower with the ECM16SQU so the ECM27SQU would both match and exceed what you currently have. Losing horsepower may not pull and move water the way your pool needs.

I replaced my Jandy stealth single speed pump with a Jandy epump variable speed pump just under 3 years ago. The epump motor has since stopped working. I believe the stealth was 1.5 hp while the epump is definitely 2.7 hp. I am not sure why the pool company increased the hp. If i originally had 1.5 hp can I go back to 1.5 hp and should I? I have read that the higher hp can damage my pool equipment. I need to verify all of this understanding with previous photos.
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/3/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Max, We would suggest going back to the 1.5 HP however if the pool company replaced the impeller to a 2.7 HP impeller when they replaced the motor then you will need to replace your impeller with the 1.5 HP impeller. You would require this 1.65 Variable Speed Motor and this 1.5 HP Impeller Kit Please note if you have an automated control system like the Jandy AquaLink then you would not be able to control the speeds of the pump from your indoor controller. All of the programming is done on the on-board controller of the motor. The automation system would just power the pump on and off and the programming you set on the motor controller would take over from there. When replacing your motor you will also need this Jandy Stealth Shaft Seal.

Most home homeowners will usually replace the motor and seal kit if the housing is in good condition. If you have the original motor on the pump then your replacement variable speed motor will be the motor model ECM27SQU which currently is on backorder. The seal kit for a chlorine pool is the GOKIT32 and the seal kit for a saltwater swimming pool is the GOKIT32SALT

I am looking to upgrade to a VS pump and am wondering if I should change out the motor and impeller or replace entirely. My current motor is a 1HP Century on Hayward housing into a DE filter (2420). The motor is very loud and I believe it is undersized for my system which is a 30,000 gal pool. Takes a solid 5 minutes to prime each startup. Photos attached. It appears that the motor is a replacement and I am unsure of its age - I am not the original owner. The pool is about 20 years old.

Also the model number and the serial number of the pump? You do not necessarily need to upgrade the impeller unless you need to get the full strength out of the motor. If it has higher horsepower and you have not added any new features to the swimming pool then you may not need the entire motor strength. Hi, You would do all of the programming for the speeds on the V-Green directly on the controller of the V-Green motor and then the Aqua Plus can be set to turn the V-Green on and off and once turned on the programming settings from the V-Green would take over from there. If you wanted to change the speed of the pump that cannot be done from the Aqua Plus and that would be done directly on the V-Green controller.

Will this pump mate up with my Hayward SP1610Z1M?

 Reply

A  Answered on 3/19/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Ed, You would actually need this 2.7 HP Round Flange variable speed - ECM27CU replacement motor for your Hayward SP1610Z1M motor referenced in your photo. The ECM16SQU Variable Speed motor listed on this page is a Square Flange Motor and is not compatible with your pump also that motor is only 1.65 HP and your current motor has a true HP of 2.2 HP so you will require a 2.7 HP replacement, so you would require the round flange 2.7 motor. Thanks so much!

Hello, You would have to go with the larger vsp motor. The eco star only comes in 3 HP and only has a 3hp impeller. Impellers are rated at the horse-power. This would be the motor we would recommend. http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00000017069223.htm
