How does the dual speed feature of this pump work?

Some dual speed pumps have a toggle switch in the back of the motor to change speeds manually, but many do not. Generally you would need to tie this dual speed pump into one of our dual speed pump timers/controllers. One of the more popular models is the Digital PE153 series. This timer has 3 functions: one to turn the pump on and off, a second auxiliary to switch from high speed to low speed, and then a third for any other piece of pool equipment. I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

What’s the difference between wfds-8 and wfds-28.
Are both energy efficient ?
Which one from the above do you recommend as a replacement for P2ra5ygl-183L pump w/ b984 dual speed motor ?
Is there any other really good replacement for my current pump. Want energy efficient to lower monthly costs?
The main electrical switch has hi and low speed. Do I need to buy anything else?

Hi. The WFDS-8 is a full rate model which has a total hp of 2.6 and the WFDS-28 is an Up Rate model so it has a total hp of 2.2. They're both considered energy efficient pump just with a different performance rating. The WFDS-28 will be the more suitable replacement for the P2RA5YGL-183L model. The Waterway SVL56 2 HP Max Rate Dual Speed Pump - SVL56S-220 along with the 2Speed Switch - 17590450 can also be considered as an alternate replacement. You will need to purchase the Pentair Switch 2 Speed Toggle - 79129900 to operate the WFDS-8 or WFDS-28 pumps.

How do you change speed on the Whisperflo 2 speed 2hp pump? Is there a toggle switch, and if so, where is it located?

Hello Larry. The Pentair Whisperflo Dual Speed 2.0 HP Pump can be wired with the Dual Speed Toggle Switch - 79129900 (not supplied with the pump) for manual high/low speed operation. The Pool Timer Dual Speed Pump Timer - T106R may be utilized in conjunction with the current pool time for automatic high/low speed operation.
