Hello.  The Pentair Pac Fab Challenger Pool Pump was manufactured in 2 models, CHII (High Head) and CFII (Medium Head).  The difference in Challenger models is key to identifying the correct motor replacement.  In the absence of this information, it is recommended to default to the Full Rate Motor 1.0 HP Motor model B2848.  Century 1.0 HP Square Flange 56Y Full Rate Motor - B2848  Attached is an exploded parts diagram for the Challenger series Pool Pump.  Replacement seals and gaskets contained in the Tune Up Kits are specific to the Challenger model.  The model can be identified by the cross-section view of the housing gasket: round = CHII, square = CFII.   Pentair / Pac Fab Challenger CHII / CFII Series

This looks like the exact same motor I've had for 20 plus years (picture attached). It finally conked out on me and I need a new one. Does this come with a new seal that's mentioned in the video? and my pool guy recommended a 1.5 HP, what motor would be equivalent to this that is 1.5 HP instead of the 1 HP? thank you in advance

A  Answered on 8/4/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello Caleb.  The Century Motors 1.0 HP Up Rate Motor model USQ1102 is the identical motor to your old USQ1102.  The Century Motors 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor USQ1152 is the 1.5 Horsepower version.  Please note:  Upgrading the motor from 1.0 HP to 1.5 HP does not increase water flow unless the pump impeller is upgraded as well.  Century 1.5 HP Square Flange 48Y Up Rate Motor - USQ1152    The motor shaft seal is specific to the pump manufacturer/model and not the motor.  Please provide the manufacturer/model information and a recommendation can be made for the correct shaft seal.

The USQ1102 would work with the Sta-Rite PHK2RA6E-102L. However, the direct replacement motor is part number B2853. The B2853 would fit in the motor base without having to use a bumper to level out the motor.

Hello, I'm considering purchasing a house with a pool, and have a question about the pump that's currently installed. It's a Century USQ1102. Everything appears to be operating correctly, but if I wanted to swap it out with something more energy efficient what would my options be? From looking around the site it seems like the UQC1102 and ECM16SQU might be replacements. Is that correct? Trying to find something as direct-fit as possible. Thank you!

Brian, Yes, the UQC1102 and ECM16SQU are both drop-in and more efficient replacements for your current motor. If you live in an area with certain energy restrictions, the ECM16SQU might be the way to go.

 Reply

A  Answered on 4/19/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S.

No, the USQ1102 cannot replace the QC1102. The USQ is an uprated 1 HP, with a total horsepower of 1.25. The QC is a full-rated motor with a total HP of 1.65. The USQ would not be able to spin the larger impeller meant for the full-rated model. The correct replacement motor options are the QC1102 or the SQ1102; the latter is a standard efficiency motor that costs more to operate.

Good afternoon Sarah. In order to cross-reference the correct seals for your pump, we will need to know whether you have a Pac Fab Challenger CH or CF series. Since the label on that front pump housing is worn then another clue to confirm which series you have is by getting the impeller and or diffuser part numbers.

The Pentair Challenger does accept a square, or 'Y,' frame motor. But the Challenger uses fullrate and uprate motors, so we would need to know the model, part, or catalog number of your motor to determine the correct match.

Hello, I believe this motor is the replacement for my Emerson C55CXKLS-5006, FR 48Y, 1HP, wired at 230 Volts (please see attached picture). Is there a variable speed motor that can potentially be used besides the motor listed. Also, the housing of my impeller is a P2R A5E-124L, code number ID92H (I think, please see the attached picture), so what seal kit will I need for either the motor listed or a potential variable speed motor if available). I hope this makes sense. Please advise. Thank you!

Hi, Sam. Unfortunately, you can use the USQ1102 motor is you replace the Impeller with P/N 073127 which will reduce your water flow since it is a smaller motor. Otherwise, you will need to use the SQ1102 motor. Whichever option you choose, you will also need the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT

Hi Donald, yes the USQ1102 is a compatible single speed replacement motor for your motor model HSQ125 . It is also recommended to replace the seals when replacing a motor. In order to locate those, we will need the front pump housing wet end model name or number that the motor attaches to. You can also upload a few images of that housing in a reply here if you need.

Hi, Al. The Code Letter is the NEMA code letter that specifies locked rotor kVA per HP (volts multiplied by locked rotor amps, divided by 1000 times rated HP). It is used to determine the correct size breaker needed in the electric box. Most motors use the 62032RS bearings.

Hi, Thanks for your help! Just a few more questions. Do I need to buy anything else besides the replacement motor to go ahead and replace the bad motor? Is this a pretty straight forward DIY type job, meaning remove the old motor by removing the 4 mounting nut and washer hardware, and then remove the electrical cord from the old motor and install it on the new motor. Then install the new motor.

To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. I am considering adding a programmable 7 day timer and go up to a 1 hp. motor programing it to run 4 hours on and 4 hours off.... Any thoughts on if this will help life of pump? thank you

Hi, Louis. Unfortunately, operating the motor that way will not extend the motor's life. Motors are designed to run, to make sure you get the most out of the motor, make sure that the pump parts and the operating environment are maintained.

If you are replacing the motor, you will not change the plumbing, you are using the same housing. Please view our How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump Guide. If you are replacing a complete pump then the intake and the discharge will vary in size. If the ports are 2" and the plumbing is 1.5" you may use reducers to resolve. Please view our How To Replace a Pool Pump With An Energy Efficient Pool Pump Guide, to use a general overview.

 Reply

A  Answered on 3/9/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

In some cases it is cheaper to rebuild the motor by replacing the bearings but that is not always worth it if the body of the motor is corroded or there are other internal parts that have burned up. Motors are designed to run hot at around 140 degrees. Most pool owners replace the motor in these instances though. You would need to know the model or part number of the motor and front pump housing that the motor bolts when calling in to place an order.

Hi, The info provided does not cross reference to a direct replacement motor. If you can send us photos of the pump and motor we can try to locate the correct motor and parts. Photos can be sent to upload@inyopools.com.

Thank you for your prompt answer regarding pump model C48AB45A01. The replacement motor model USQ1102 has a square flange (or bottom). The motor being replaced has a round flange (or bottom). Will this affect the installation of said replacement motor? Thank you again for your assistance.

Hi, Nancy. This will not affect the installation process.

Would this pump be compatible with Stai Rite Max E Pro Hp-1 Model K48l29a105

Yes, that is the correct replacement motor for the Max-E-Pro and the shaft seal is part number 5057-30. The shaft seal needs to be replaced every time the motor is replaced.

Will this motor marry up with the Sta-rite pump model # P2RA5E-1811 ?

A  Answered on 2/22/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Stacey M.

Hello Eric, Yes the USQ1102 is the correct frame size that will fit with your P2RA5E-1811 StaRite model pump. Please make sure when replacing the motor that you also get a GOKIT which will replace your pump seal and orings.  Depending on which model you have Pre 1998 GOKIT6 and 1998 to present GOKIT54, the difference is the GOKIT6 is the pump seal kit if you have a copper cone and you can use GOKIT54 if your not sure whether you have a copper cone or not. You can remove the copper cone and use GOKIT54.

I have a P2RA5E-181L Sta-Rite pump that needs a replacement motor. Is the AO Smith USQ1102 motor the correct motor? You have it listed for $139.99 with free shipping. IF it is correct, what seals do I need to install it? IS there a kit available? Thank you.

Hi, Bill. The USQ1102 motor is the correct replacement for the P2RA5E-181L model pump. You will need the Sta-Rite Dura-Glas & Max-E-Glas Tune Up Kit GOKIT6 (Pre-1998) or GOKIT54 (1998-Current).

I have a Hayward in-ground pool pump motor with noisy bearings. Mod.# C48D31A04. Will this motor be compatible? If so, What seal kit do I need?

Yes, the USQ1102 would be the correct motor replacement. I need to know the model of your pump to figure out the correct seal kit for you though. If you do not know please attach a side view picture of your complete pump so I can identify it for you.

I am replacing just the motor and I noticed on the old one there is a rubber thing around the spindle but the new one doesn't have that. So I am wondering do I have to order that part? Or is that not necessary anymore? Thanks,

The rubber grommet around the shaft of the motor is called a water slinger. Its purpose is to help deflect water away from the bearings behind the faceplate of the motor. You can use the one from the previous motor or here is a link to the available water slinger parts.

Good morning Ray, Most to Hayward pump have circle flange motors . Fo the ez flo I'm pulling up a Hayward super 2 pump. Which would be ust1102 if you have a 1hp with an S.F. of 1.1 . Let me know what the model number is to be sure. You will also need to get a new shaft seal and o-rings. If it is the Hayward super 2. You will need a gokit2 or a gokit2salt if you have a salt pool.
