What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

These are tell tale signs that the motor is on it's last legs. Possibly able to be rebuilt it but at 8-10 years old, I would not advise to do that. Bad bearings usually cause the the high pitch noise and a motor running hot could be caused by a few other factors such as resistance, or even a temperature switch.

Will this replace a sta-rite P2RA5E - 181L motor. Also, can I replace it with a 1.5 HP motor?

A  Answered on 6/9/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Bryan, yes this is the proper replacement motor for the Sta-Rite P2RA5E-181L Dura-Glas pump. You could go up to the 1.5 HP Dura-Glas Replacement Motor but you will need to replace your 1 HP impeller with a 1.5 HP Dura-Glas impeller. Regardless if you go 1 HP or 1.5 HP you will also need a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas Tune Up Kit (first item listed on the Dura-Glas Parts Page).

From the details, this motor is the one i have, but the listing says for my pump i should have the different flange. Can you confirm whether this motor will fit (it seems to be fitted now), if so which shaft and pump seal kits i will need for a full overhaul. Thanks in advance.

Before it quit it wasn't pulling the water all the way to the top of the basket. If a 1.5 or 2 might be better, could you send me the model numbers and prices. thank you very much.
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/16/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

Hello Glenna, First let us address the fact that your pump basket would not fill to the top (prime). This is an indicator that you have an air leak either around the pump lid basket or possibly where the valves are before the pump. Changing to a stronger motor would not correct this problem. Second, I would not recommend upgrading your motor unless you have added features to your pool (ie. solar panels, hot tub, fountains) or if you have been experiencing issues with your pool not receiving proper filtration. An increase in the horsepower will improve the circulation, but keep in mind that you may need to change parts on your pump as well to accommodate the higher speeds.

The rubber grommet around the shaft of the motor is called a water slinger. Its purpose is to help deflect water away from the bearings behind the faceplate of the motor. You can use the one from the previous motor or here is a link to the available water slinger parts.

Please make sure when replacing the motor that you also get a GOKIT which will replace your pump seal and orings.  Depending on which model you have Pre 1998 GOKIT6 and 1998 to present GOKIT54, the difference is the GOKIT6 is the pump seal kit if you have a copper cone and you can use GOKIT54 if your not sure whether you have a copper cone or not. I was told this motor could replace my current one (Model# K48L2PA101A1). I noticed the total HP on my current motor is 1.65 and the SF on mine is 1.65, these are slightly different from your motor. Is this motor compatible for me?

Hello David, This K48L2PA101A1 matches 1.0 HP Full Rate EE Motor (B864SE) - QC1102. I would highly recommend a pump seal or GOKIT when replacing your motor. We would need a pump model number to find the pump seal or GOKIT you would need.

I have a pool pump motor that was running, I turned it off to clean the filter and now it will not start. It is hot to the touch. The motor is a 1 hp Emerson 1081 with a 4 bolt flange. Would it be cheaper to rebuild it or purchase a replacement?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/9/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

In some cases it is cheaper to rebuild the motor by replacing the bearings but that is not always worth it if the body of the motor is corroded or there are other internal parts that have burned up. Motors are designed to run hot at around 140 degrees. Most pool owners replace the motor in these instances though. You would need to know the model or part number of the motor and front pump housing that the motor bolts when calling in to place an order.

But if you are wanting to replace the complete pump I would stick with the Max-E-Pro that you currently have, that is a great pump.

The variable speed motor replacement model ECM16SQU is the newest technology that is far more quiet in lower RPM settings. In order to look up the correct seal kit, we will need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to. If you are not sure of that model then you can always email us images of that housing to upload@inyopools.com so we can help to confirm.

To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

The motor replacement is the Century 1.0 HP Square Flange 48Y Up Rate Motor - USQ1102 The Dayton 4RJ93 it is an aftermarket design to one of Pentair's pumps, you can use the Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite Flo Tech/AquaTools/Dyna-Glas - GOKIT44 for the seals if you have a salt pool add the Shaft Seal PS-201V, 3/4" Shaft Size (PS-201V-CMS) to sub. out the standard shaft seal in the Gokit44.

Hi Donald, yes the USQ1102 is a compatible single speed replacement motor for your motor model HSQ125 . It is also recommended to replace the seals when replacing a motor. In order to locate those, we will need the front pump housing wet end model name or number that the motor attaches to. You can also upload a few images of that housing in a reply here if you need.

Hi, Sam. Unfortunately, you can use the USQ1102 motor is you replace the Impeller with P/N 073127 which will reduce your water flow since it is a smaller motor. Otherwise, you will need to use the SQ1102 motor. Whichever option you choose, you will also need the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT

Hello, I believe this motor is the replacement for my Emerson C55CXKLS-5006, FR 48Y, 1HP, wired at 230 Volts (please see attached picture). Is there a variable speed motor that can potentially be used besides the motor listed. Also, the housing of my impeller is a P2R A5E-124L, code number ID92H (I think, please see the attached picture), so what seal kit will I need for either the motor listed or a potential variable speed motor if available). I hope this makes sense. Please advise. Thank you!

Hello Sergio, yes the Century 1.0 HP Square Flange 48Y Up Rate Motor - USQ1102 would be the correct motor. For the seal kit we would recommend the Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite Dura-Glas & Max-E-Glas Pump 1998 To Present - GOKIT54.

The Pentair Challenger does accept a square, or 'Y,' frame motor. But the Challenger uses fullrate and uprate motors, so we would need to know the model, part, or catalog number of your motor to determine the correct match.

Good afternoon Sarah. In order to cross-reference the correct seals for your pump, we will need to know whether you have a Pac Fab Challenger CH or CF series. Since the label on that front pump housing is worn then another clue to confirm which series you have is by getting the impeller and or diffuser part numbers.

 Reply

A  Answered on 4/19/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S.

No, the USQ1102 cannot replace the QC1102. The USQ is an uprated 1 HP, with a total horsepower of 1.25. The QC is a full-rated motor with a total HP of 1.65. The USQ would not be able to spin the larger impeller meant for the full-rated model. The correct replacement motor options are the QC1102 or the SQ1102; the latter is a standard efficiency motor that costs more to operate.

Hi Leonardo, FR refers to the frame of the motor, or, more specifically, the distance from the center of the driveshaft to the center bottom of the mount, expressed in sixteenths of an inch.  A 48 frame motor is 3" from the center of the driveshaft to the center bottom of the mount (48 divided by 16 = 3) and a 56 frame motor is 3-1/2" from the center of the driveshaft to the center bottom of the mount (56 divided by 16 = 3-1/2).

Hi Flavio, the USQ1102 will be a perfect replacement motor.  We also suggest a GOKIT54 which has all new o-rings, lubricant, and a new shaft seal for a leak-free installation.

Hello Ben.  The Century Motors model USQ1102 is NOT a compatible replacement for the A. O. This looks to be the direct replacement for my current pump That is working fine (QC1102), no leaks, but pretty loud, would this pump be quieter?

A  Answered on 10/3/2022 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Hello, so your direct replacement would actually be the QC1102 and a new motor should not be loud as it seems your bearings are failing causing the noise. We also recommend replacing the seals and gaskets. Here is our "Finding the Tune-Up Kit for Your Pool Pump" guide that should assist you in locating the correct kit.

I have a pump whose model number starts P2RA5E and the rest of the label is damaged. Looking online -181 comes up as a valid suffix and I can see that as a possibility on the damaged part of the label. The picture looks the same too so I assuming that would be the seal kit I need to go along with the USQ1102 motor. Can you please let me know what the tune-up seal kit would be for this? Or if you need more into to track done the correct pump. Thanks.
