Are all Hayward Tristar Pumps considered variable speed?
 Reply

>No, The only variable speed TriStar pump is model#: SP322063EEV. This pump requires either the SP3220VSC - TriStar Energy Solution Control stand alone control, or the SP3220VSCAQL - TriStar Energy Solution Control for Pro Logic

1.) What is the difference between the Tri-Star Maxrated pump, and the tri star "energy efficient" 2.) Is there any data available on the actual efficiency difference between the max-flo models and the Tri-Star models? I only run the pump for 4 months, so is the higher efficiency worth the money to me? My electricity costs .13 per kW/hr

Hi, The main is difference is in the way the manufacture rates the motors... essentially a 1-1/2 HP Max Rate motor also called Up Rate motor is equal to a 1-1/2 HP Energy Efficient or Full Rate motor. This is best explained in an article we wrote on The Difference Between Up Rate & Full Rate Motors. Since you are only running your pump 4 months out of the year and your electricity is relatively cheap I would go with the standard efficiency pump.

My tristar pump is just humming when the power is turned on. Sounds like the motor is locked up. Can the motor just be replaced? Everything else is just fine.

Yes you can replace just the motor. Here is a link to the Hayward TriStar Parts list. The motors are listed on this page. We would also recommend that whenever you change out a motor, that you change the TRISTAR SHAFT SEAL as well as any other o-rings/gaskets that need replacement.

Good evening does this pump include the fittings to connect to the pvc pipes or is that a separate purchase?

The Tristar pumps include the union connectors.
