What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I am changing out a my b853 motor for a B2853 motor. Is there a difference in the connections?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/23/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

This is the same motor there will be no difference in the connections. The B853 and B2853 are simply alternate part numbers for the same motor.

IS this a reversible motor. I bought it new, installed it to pump. primed the pump, but it still does not pull water. Checked all the seals, etc.
 Reply

A  Answered on 11/25/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Brian M.

A single phase motor such as this will only spin in one direction. A three phase has the ability to be wired incorrectly and spin the wrong way. Please check to make sure the impeller is clear of any debris and the pump back lid is secured and the o-ring beneath is lubed properly. It sounds more like an air leak than a motor issue.

the old motor was very noise

Written on 7/14/2021 by Guest

I replaced the old one with this new motor following a YouTube video. it was not difficult at all. It run very quiet, but the pump was not pumping at all. After a while, I noticed there was a leak. I dissembled motion from the pump, and found that the seal plate had been damaged(something melted around the shaft hole). Now I am shopping for that seal plate, I am not sure which one is the right one between C203-193P or C203-194P

The filter pump motor burned up for our pump.

Written on 5/8/2018 by Guest

To replace the motor, the pump must be removed with the motor attached, then the pump inlet cover and impeller must be removed. Then the motor removed from the pump plate. Remove the pump seals. Remove the power cable from the pump. Attached wires to the new pump. Attach the pump plate. Install new seals. Install impeller, inlet cover. and reattached to pump filter housing. Voila!

The bearing were going in my pool pump.

Written on 1/19/2018 by Guest

I purchased a new motor that fit my pentair challenger pump assembly. I received the motor quickly and was able to swap the motors at a fraction of the cost that a pool company would have charged. Up and running in a hour and a half.

Pool Pump Motor Failed

Written on 1/3/2018 by Guest

I always start any repair (especially one I haven't done in a while) by searching online with Google. It's amazing how much information, especially you tube videos are available. First I searched for troubleshooting. When I turned the motor on manually, it was noisy and shut down after 5-8 seconds. A bad capacitor could have caused the shutdown, but the noise told the motor was bad. It has been several years since I replaced the motor, and since I save so much money shopping online online, my next step was to find a seller. Inyo Pools was priced right ($50 savings from a store) and also offered a wealth of information. What I neglected to do was to dissemble everything to insure I didn't need anything other than the motor. In fact, the copper ring and the 0-ring on the difuser were also worn out and could have been ordered with the motor. So, other than the delay in 2 orders, everything went well replacing the motor. Don't forget to clean every part and lubricate all rubber o-rings with silicone.

My old motor was so loud, I’m surprised the neighbors never complained.

Written on 11/21/2017 by Guest

I watched a couple different videos on YouTube to get enough information and some tips on what to do and what not to do.
Power was turned off at the breaker box.
Took a photo of the connections at the timer box and disconnected the wires.
Removed the clamp that holds the two sections of the pump together and separated them.
Once the pump is apart get it up on a surface where you can easily work. First unscrew the impeller cover, then unscrew the impeller, then disassemble the motor half of the pump. Keep track of the order of all the parts on the shaft.
Once you’ve got the housing and motor half of the pump off, assemble it to the new motor, reversing the order you have just performed. Be sure to use new seals for your task during reassembly. Keep all seals properly greased and clean during reassembly.
Once you are satisfied that you have successfully completed the assembly, attach the wires to the back of the motor and bring the two halves of the pump back together. Before rejoining the 2 halves, make sure you have thouroghly cleaned and heavily grease the seal and surfaces that meet.
Reconnect your wires to the timer box and you should be good to go. Silence is golden!!
