How do I backwash my Hayward Vertical Grid DE filter?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/8/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

When the filter pressure rises 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure, the filter must be backwashed. Turn off the pool pump. Rotate the multiport valve to backwash position or slide the slide valve up. When the pump is turned on, the dirty DE and water will flow out to waste. Once the water runs clear, turn off the pump. With a slide valve, push the handle down and start the pump. Once the pump is primed, add the required DE. If using a multiport valve, rotate the handle to rinse. Turn on the pump and let water flow for 20-30 seconds, cleaning out the plumbing lines. Turn off the pump and rotate the valve back to filter. Turn on the pump and once primed add required DE.

Does this come with the valve assembly as pictured, or does that need to be purchased separately? If it is not included, what is the proper PN? Thank you

The DE2420 comes WITHOUT the valve. That can be purchased sepeartly. If you would like a Push-Pull valve, that part number is 4810-44C .  If you would lkie a Multi-port valve you can either go with a 1 1/2 inch valve ( SP0710XR50 ) or the 2 inch version ( SP0740DE )

how to reattach the metal belt to the filter
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/5/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Frank, Once you have the lid in place, you would place the clamp around the lip for the lid and the base. Once you have the clamp in place you would slide the bolt through the other end of the clamp then use the locking nut along onto the spring fastening the locking nut onto the bolt until the clamp is tightly fasten onto the tank.
