I have a Hayward 4820 DE Filter with 1-1/2" plumbing. I am going to upgrade all my above ground plumbing to 2" when replacing my pump, is this the right replacement for my current 1-1/2" multiport valve?
Reply
Jeff, Yes this is the correct replacement to go from 1.5" to 2".
Reply
I'm planning to do the same thing by upgrading to 2" piping above ground with the new pump. Can you explain more detail on this multiport valve's piping dimensions. To my DE4820, are the union connections still the same same size as the current 1.5" Hayward multiport valve? If my return flow is still restricted to 1 1/2" piping into and out of the heater, is an upgrade to 2" before the pump useful? What about 1.5" vs. 2" piping between the pump and filter?
Reply
Hi Jonathan, Yes the union connections from the valve connecting to the filter will be the same size. The biggest advantage will be upgrading to 2" on the inlet of the pump and ideally if you can do at 10" of straight 2" pipe directly into the pump. Also any 90's you can remove will help out quite a bit. Here is a link to an article and video we put together on Common Pool Plumbing Issues I think you will find this video helpful.

Will the Hayward SP0715XR50 fit an Anthony Flowmaster 5000 DE filter?
Hi Dave, You would need the SP0715XALL Universal Backwash Valve this valve does not attach to the filter it is plumbed into your plumbing
Reply
I also need the thread ring that screws to the filter, securing the multi port to the filter. It is broken. It is in the picture on the floor on the rag. Is that something you carry as well?
Hi Dave, Could you inspect that union nut very closely to see if you can see a number or any words stamped into it?
Reply
1: Well slap me silly... you are right, there is a number there. 510130. I am almost certain the second to the last number is a 3 ... it is very hard to see. You be the judge. 2: It looks as though I would also need the slip fitting the union slips over....Yes.. No? 3: Is the piping standard 2 inch schedule 40 pic?
Hi Dave, thanks for that part# that helps out a ton! You will need this 51013000 Union Nut I would suggest the slip fitting that the Nut slides over. It appears that the Anthony Flowmaster 5000 uses the same piping assembly as the American Products Sand Piper. Please click here to see the American Products Sand Piper Parts Breakdown (key #18) the slip fitting is available in both 1.5" and 2" as there were two versions of this filter manufactured, you should be able to see digital or embossed writing on your plumbing which will say 1.5 or 2.0 Here is the 1.5" Slip Union Fitting and here is the 2" Slip Union Fitting

Do I need to order any o-rings for installing the valve onto the filter or they come complete with the valve purchase?
Reply
Hi, William. This valve is complete, you will just connect to the filter and plumb the pump, return, and waste ports.

How do you determine what size valve to buy when purchasing a new DE3620? I need to replace a old sand filter that currently has a 2 inch valve. Does it depend on the diameter of the pipes which are already there?
Reply
Brian, You would select the valve based on the size of the pvc you're plumbing to it. If you have 1.5" plumbing, you would choose the 1.5" valve.

I am looking for a replacement value for my Hayward Vari-Flo valve, Model SF 710XR50. ( SN 120C27). Will this Vari-Flo Valve 2" for DE be compatibale?
Reply
Hi Raul, The SP0715XR50 can replace the SP0710XR50 valve. The SP0715XR50 has 2" ports so you will have to take that into consideration.

Where can I find a replacement sticker just like on this part? PART#SP0715XR50 I need one with the Filter cycle on the bottom and the backwash on the top.. any and all help is very appreciated.

Hi Kathy, You would need this Hayward Vari-Flo Valve Label we also put together a Guide on How to Backwash a Pool Filter with No Label which you may find helpful.

The handle on the valve broke. What are the parts I need to replace? Is replacing only the handle and the plastic washer just underneath the handle sufficient or I should also replace the top half of the valve assembly?
Reply
Hi Mike, I would recommend replace the Handle (SPX0715F), Non-Metallic Bearing (SPX0710Z16) and the O-ring w/ Teflon Seal. If the o-rings and spider gasket have not been replaced lately I would recommend getting the SP715 Multi Port Valve Tune Up Kit (NO SPRING).

I broke the handle on my valve. I am ordering a replacement. Is there any way to adjust the setting while I wait for it to arrive?
Reply
Hi, Unfortunately without a handle there is no other way to change the valve position.
Reply
Whenever I move this handle on valve spo715xr50 which way do I rotate it?
Reply
Whenever you are moving the handle on this or other vari-flo valves you first must always make sure that the pump is off, then rotate the handle clockwise until it arrives in the position that you need. Continue this process when using the valve.

I need parts for my filter valve. When I look at the filter parts breakdown, it gives me different choices. How do I know which one is the one I need?
Reply
In order to locate the correct parts we will need to know the model number of the filter valve. Two identical filters can have two different valves. Typically the valve model will be located on the label of the valve. If there is no model number on the valve, you can try to see if there are any part numbers on the valve itself. Once you've located you valve model you can check out our >Filter Valve Parts.

Hacksaw and outdoor pvc cement.
Was a simple install. Removed the two way valve. Bought some pvc from the local hardware store and cut some new connections for the new valve.
The multivalve was plug and play into the filter and just connected the new pvc parts. Works great and the new valve has a window so I can see the water being expelled during backwash. Once I see clean water I know I am done. Much better than the original two way valve. Delivery was earlier than expected when ordering. All in all a pretty simple diy project.

(5 out of 5 stars) It's a valve - yay :P

IT's a valve - it's hard to get excited as long as it works. I didn't do a lot of homework and probably could have gotten the slide valve as it would have had less bends for my setup, but this installed with minimal hassle, and like the threaded 2-inch ports. It's easy to replumb if required, and works well with the filter.

(4 out of 5 stars) 5 port valve
Reviewed By: Edward S. from Philadelphia, Pa ()
Pros: same connections as valve with previous generation DE filter
Cons: poor design on the 2" connections going to pump and pool When using 2" inch piping one must be cautious of where to place a unions else there is interference
This valve with 2" ports was bundled with the 48 sq ft DE filter also with 2" connections but a 1 1/2 HP super pump with 1 1/2 connections The 1 1/2 " pump seems like it would be a bottleneck for maintaining the high volume through the remainder of the 2" connectiond
