Hi David, We do not have installation instructions for this part. However, it's pressed into the seal plate and a little silicone sealer on the outside to keep it in place.

what is the outside diameter off the small area that seats in .and what seal goes with it ? 5/8 shaft

Some pumps took this heat sink ans some didn't make sure your pump needs this.

There is only 1 application for this copper insert. If you have a StaRite Maxi/Dura Glass pump prior to 1998 this is correct.

Pump was making noise and seal was leaking.

Shut off pump.

Drain water from suction by opening drain plugs on bottom of pump body and trap body.

Remove clamp around pump head.

Move motor and seal plate from pump body.

Unscrew 5 screws holding diffuser to seal plate and remove diffuser.

Loosen screws holding motor cover to motor and remove cover.

Place 7/16" open end wrench on motor shaft flat.

Remove impeller by turning it counter clock wise.

Remove 4 screws holding seal plate to motor and remove seal plate.

The copper seal insert was broken and no longer attached to the seal plate.
Place seal plate on flat surface and tap out ceramic seal seat using socket and hammer.

removed the remaining portion of the copper seal insert with a larger socket.

Cleaned seal cavity with soap and water.

Apply thin layer of non hardening permatex to insert cavity,
Place card board washer in bottom of copper insert. Using 1/2" pipe coupling, gently tap insert into cavity.

Wipe off excess permatexfrom seal plate and sopper insert.
clean seal cavity in insert.

clean and polish surface of ceramic seat with clean cloth (microfiber).
wet edge of "o" ring with liquid soap.

using finger, press seat firmly and squarely into seal cavity.

clean motor shaft with some wet sand sand paper to remove corrosion. Clean up with liquid soap.

reinstall seal plate onto motor shaft by first applying some soap to the seal (shaft side). Then slide the seal plate onto the shaft until the rubber drive ring hits the shaft shoulder.

Screw impeller on shaft (clockwise) using 7/16" open end wrench on motor shaft flat.

Reinstall motor cover screws.

Attach seal plate to motor with 4 bolts. Do not over tighten.

Reassemble diffuser by finger tightening the 5 screws (not too tight)
Install "o" ring on diffser.

Install "o" ring pump head.

Install seal plate and motor to pump head, reinstall clamp around both and tighten clamp.

Fill pump with water.

Install suction trap cover and start pump.

Project complete. No leaks, no noise and is pumping.
