What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Hi, How do we tell which seals to purchase with this replacement motor? There is not a label on the front housing.

Hello- The seals will be based off of the model of the pump not the motor. If you can not find a label on the front housing we would need to see if we can find a part number on the impeller or pump lid to try to identify the pump. If not you can send a picture to upload@inyopools.com.

This shows to replace my Jandy JHPU 1.5 (part # 7-193632-24) but the motor I have has a capacitor on top. This is shown on the detail drawing, but not shown in the photo. Does this motor come with the capacitor?

Hi. In order to locate the correct seal for your pump, we will need to know the pump housing model. If you're unable to locate the pump housing model you can email us photos of the housing so that we can identify it.

I ordered a 5212X motor to replace the motor on my Jandy JHPU 1.5HP pump today which I think is the correct motor. I noted that your 5212X motor drawing shows that it is a CW rotation. My existing motor as viewed looking at the impeller end of the shaft rotates in a CCW manner. Did I order the incorrect motor ? Thanks.

Ordered new pump. First, removed 4 bolts from old, electrical wiring, and slid old impeller off the shaft. Then installed the new pump motor.

Existing pool pump failed after 12 years of operation

Written on 6/29/2017 by Guest

My pump was a 2005 Jandy JHPU 1.5 HP unit.

1, Turned power off to the pump control panel
2. Opened suction basket lid and vented filter housing to drain system back to inground pool
3. Removed 6 pump flange bolts and pulled pump/motor assembly from pump body
4. Noted 1 diffuser flange screw missing and the other loose due to both brass thread inserts corroded away in mounting plate assembly. Removed diffuser and cone from mounting plate.
5. removed motor end cap to access shaft wrench flat.
6. put wrench on flats to hold shaft still and removed Left Hand thread impeller lock screw
7. removed Right Hand threaded impeller from motor shaft
8. removed 4 bolts holding mounting plate to motor, then removed mounting plate from motor
9. turned power to the pump panel back on, closed the motor breakers then turned on the motor to check.
10. motor sounded like it had gravel in it and tripped on motor overload heater after approx. 20 seconds. So I knew my motor was bad, then disconnected the power again. Since the motor was 12 years old and showed obvious signs of deterioration, I looked for a replacement motor.
11. found what I needed on INYO Pools website, asked a couple of questions and got confirmation that motor replacement was correct for what I had and then made the purchase.
12. ordered up new seals, mounting plate and diffuser plate w/cone along with the new motor and reversed the disassembly.
13. to make the installation easier, I purchased new wire, conduit, fittings and connectors and wired up the motor & put the pump assembly together on the bench where it was easy to work.
14. carried the assembly with the 6 foot conduit and wiring all connected to the motor out to where the pool equipment was,
15. made the electrical connections in the control panel & bonding wires, bumped the motor to verify correct rotation, turned the power back off then installed the pump with new gasket into the pump housing.
16. primed the system and turned the power back on & started it up, checked for leaks and I am now one happy camper thanks to the folks at INYO. Motor is quiet and runs like a champ.
17. purchased a motor cover from the local pool supply store and installed over the motor to protect it from the weather as the installation instructions recommended.

Bearing went bad and I took motor apart & saw salt water leaked by the seal plate so I replaced the motor seal kit,Defuser and impeller and seals

Written on 3/18/2017 by Guest

I removed the motor and all attachments on the front of motor , Seal plate, difuser, impeller and seals and replaced all of them with new ones after watching several of the INYO videos on how to replace each one. The video's really helped and made the replacement pretty easy.
