Yes but you can't go with a higher HP than the single speed motor. For example if you have a 1 HP single speed you cannot go with a 1.5 HP dual speed motor; you would be able to use a 1 HP dual speed motor. Customer would need to purchase a toggle switch or timer to switch from high speed to low speed.

What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Can you direct me to the proper hi low switch for this motor?

Unfortunately the manufacturer does not offer the switch for the 2 speed 220v motors any longer. If you already have a 220 volt timer (on/off) you would need an Intermatic T106R to switch from high to low speed. If you do not have a timer currently you would need the T10604R which is a 220v on/off timer and a high/low timer.

How can I tell whether or not my motor is a dual or single speed?

Most dual speed motors will have a toggle switch that will allow you to adjust the motor speed to either high or low. Another way to tell if your motor is dual speed is by looking at the RPM's on the motor specifications label. If there are two RPM's listed such as: 1725/3450 then motor is dual speed. If there is only one RPM, then motor is single speed.

My current single speed pump (Sta-Rite K48K2PA105C1) has a 3/4 hp motor with a service factor of 1.65, making the total hp 1.24. Will this 1 hp dual-speed motor with a total hp of 1.25 be acceptable as a replacement? Also, can the two speeds on this pump be controlled by my Jandy AquaLink RS2/6 controller?

Hello Bob - The UQS1102R, with the 1.25 total HP, would be the correct replacement for your current motor. The Jandy Aqualink can control the 2-speed motor but you will require a 2-speed pump relay.

I have a Polaris 280 pool sweep with a booster pump. The main pump must be running before the booster pump will start. If I replace my current single-speed pump motor (total hp: 1.24) with this motor (total hp: 1.25), will I be able to operate my Polaris (with booster pump) while the main pump motor is running at low speed?

Hello Bob - The Polaris 280 will not work with the motor set on low speed. It will require the high speed and the booster pump.

When installed on my current 1.25 thp Sta-Rite pump, will LOW-SPEED have sufficient head-pressure to pump water to my solar collectors on the roof. Height of flat roof is about 12'above pump and the pipe length from pump to start of panels is about 50'. My last question...promise!

I am replacing a 2-speed motor attached to a Hayward try-star pump. The only tags on the outside say a.o. Smith Century two-speed motor and "Jandy" sticker on motor body. Pool documentation lists a 1.5 HP motor, but that may have been replaced by this motor...? Am I on the right track? Thanks, Dan

If you have the part number of your current motor and the model of your pump I can find the correct motor and shaft seal you need for the motor replacement. If you do not have that information please attach some pictures so I can identify what you have so we can get you the correct parts.

I have just received my pump motor SQS1102R to replace my old motor. Upon examination of the Hayward Tri-Star impeller number (SP3220C) I started to question if I have the correct impeller for this motor...can you assist? The last motor was rated at 1.5HP and is no longer made. The 1HP motor is the replacement option, but I'm worried about over working the motor with this impeller.

Yes, this would be a correct replacement motor for your model WFDS-24 pool pump. Just keep in mind that the frame is not as wide as the original so may not rest on the motor base in the same manner as the original. If you would like to match the frame size then you would use the model B981 motor.

My current input voltage is 115V. This pump rating is 230V. Do you have this pump in a model to accept 115 V input. Replacing a WFDS-24 pentair dual speed motor.

I need to replace 2 pool pump motors. Both pumps are Whisper Flow Century Motors. Both motor tags are hard to read. Here is the information I can read.
On one pump the motor tag shows- Century Centurion A. O. Smith 1 hp ,1.25SF, Serial BX12-02, FR P56Y,Volts 230/115, amps 7.1/14.2 and part 7-177474-01
The other pump is also a A.O Smith Century Centurion, 2hp, SF 1.3, CAT B2748, Frame Y56Y,230 Volts, Part 0-196269-20, Serial 12014CH
What are the recommended replacement motors for each.

Hi, Jerry. The B2853 or PL2853 motors can be used to replace motor one with Part # 7-177474-01 and the B2748 will replace the second motor wit with CAT # B2748 / Part # 0-196269-20. You will also need to get the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.
