Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

Therese, these units are factory set for a max temperature of 104 degrees. A licence contractor can adjust it to 107 degrees max following Raypak instructions.

what is difference between 266 and 267- I was looking PR267A but you show a 266 with different letters? I am concerned with the gas line length listed. I am replacing an existing heater, so gas is at heater location, but from gas source at house to pool is 80-100 feet, so how does this footage apply ? One last question, my pool is 18 x 40, is the 266/267 large enough ?

Hi Brad, The 266 & 267 would be the same heater, over the years this heater has been tested and at one point the testing agency rated it at 267,000 BTU's and then it was retested and rated at 266,000 BTU's the difference is negligible. Based on your measurements you would need a 1-1/4" gas line to adequately supply this heater. This 266,000 BTU heater would be a good choice for your 18' x 40' pool.

Is there anything that would make the hot water output seem cooler one year as opposed to years past? The water from this seemed really hot coming into the pool 2 years ago. Each of the last 2 years it seems the water is a little cooler each year and the heating process is taking longer. Odd, right?

Hi Nadia, If you have an electronic ignition heater then this would be the correct pool heater for you. You would be able to tell if you have an electronic ignition heater if your heater has digital display on the heater. If you heater does not have have digital display on the heater and just has basic knobs then you would need the Raypak 266,000 Milivolt Heater.

Hi Brian, You would be better off going with the 266,000 BTU heater verses the 206,000. It will heat the pool faster and the unit will not have to work at it max to heat the pool which would increase it's longevity.

Hello, Paul, The Raypak Heater 266000 BTU NG ELE 009217 is a Natural Gas (NG) unit. This will and won't work with your Aqualink. You will be able to turn the unit on and off but will not be able to control the temperature setting from your remote. Essentially, you'll be able to provide power but nothing more.

Abbie, this Raypak heater is the Natural Gas (NG) version but it is not suited for a saltwater pool. This heater has a copper heat exchanger which will corrode easier due to saltwater. For saltwater pools, the manufacturer suggests using the Cupro-Nickel version which is model number PR266AENX.

Hello, Raypak does have a number of Electric Heat Pumps to choose from. I would recommend either the Raypak Standard 117K BTU Digital Heat Pump or the Raypak Standard 133K BTU Digital Heat Pump. Remember, the bigger the unit the faster it will heat your pool.

That heater will work, it will take a while for it to warm up. I would recommend going with part number 009219, the 406k BTU model. It will be much more efficient with a 45,000 gallon pool. If you have a saltwater pool I would go with part number 014941. That heater has a cooper reinforced heat exchanger that makes it last longer because it will not corrode not nearly as fast.

Hi Becky, If this is replacing an exsisting heater then I would not go larger than your old heater BTU size as you run the risk that the gas supply line is not large enough. If this is a new installation and you are running a new gas line then I would go with the larger unit. Everything needed for an outdoor installation is included with this heater.

Dean, As long as the pump is strong enough to provide enough water flow (gpm) to the heater and the gas line is sized correctly, you can install the heater 30ft away from the pump and filter. Please refer to the installation manual for space requirements.

Hello, based on the size of your pool, your heater is slightly oversized, but that is fine because we typically recommend oversizing your heater. If you have natural gas I would recommend this heater, but if you have propane you will need this one.

To determine which one is the problem, inspect the sensor, wires, and connector at Terminal P1 Check resistance value of the sensor. Hi, Craig. A check valve is required sine you have a chlorine generator. It does not come with the heater, it's sold separately. The check valve is installed between the cell and the heater. This model is the copper heat exchanger, you will need model # PR266AENX.

I have an indoor pool, 18' x 36' but 20,000 gal. I am looking to switch over to a Propane from oil furnace.
1. what size do I need to heat quickly?
2. would like a remote control.
3. Do you have a closed loop gas chamber system that exhaust out doors with PVC?

Hi, Tony. A 406K BTU heater will provide you with the quickest heating time. To get remote access to the heater an external controller like Pool Automation will have to be installed. If the unit is installed outdoor a vent kit is not required, see page 12-14 of the Raypak Owners/Instructions Manual for outdoor installation.

These are highly recommended to be used and the types will vary depending on the plumbing application on site. There are 1.5-inch models and 2 inch. Please click here to view the list of check valves that we carry that you may be able to use. The Flo check valves are very commonly used.

My RP2100 Model185-R405 was installed in 1995 and has to be replaced after years of great performance using propane. I would like to replace it with a compatible unit. The tag with the BTU is gone so I don't know what my old unit is. My pool has about 23,000 gallons. Which would you suggest and if I wanted to go up one larger, which one would that be.

Sandy, yes this Raypak RP2100 Heater 266,000 BTU NG ELE would be a good selection for your pool. As long as you know have natural gas and not propane this heater will work as a good replacement. I love RayPak heaters, I think they are a superior product.

Hi, Denny. The P-R266A-EN-X will be the direct sea level replacement. The "X" indicates that the unit has a cupro-nickel heat exchanger and "C" a copper heat exchanger. The installation can be done by a homeowner, it will affect the warranty if the unit is not installed properly.

Are the 2" unions on my heater standard? I need to replace some PVC piping and will need to replace a portion of the union and the 1.5" reducing bushing.

Hi. The water and electrical connections can be switch to either side, however, not the gas valve. This heater can be used to heat a pool and a seperate spa. I will need you to reconfirm the pool and spa surface area.

I received the heater from you (Raypak Heater 266,000 BTU NG – P-R266A-EN-C). No shipping problems.
It is the same model I had before, and everything looks identical to my old heater except for the wires. The previous model had 6 wires (not 4). So I have two extra wires going into the heater, which have no connections in the heater. Can you tell me why? Is it something that was added previously by the installer? For what purpose?

I had an old model of Raypak Heater 266,000 BTU NG – P-R266A-EN-C.
Got from you a new one. No problems.
However, according to the OLD manual of the model, there was an option for adding a "fireman switch". It is shown in the wiring diagram of the same heater I bought 12 years ago.
I am looking at the NEW manual and don't seem to find anything about wiring a "fireman switch". I just want to verify that this is the case (no firing switch option).

Unfortunately, we do not have a dimensions sheet on the 265B, but this is the spec sheet on the PR266AENC RP Series Technical Data. That pdf lists all the cabinet dimensions you wish to compare to your current unit.You should also be aware, this unit is rated for residential only use, whereas your C265B is a commercial unit. If this heater is for commercial use, you will need the Raypak Heater 266BTU NG ELE ASME.

Hello, The general rule of thumb when it comes to sizing a pool heater is a pool over 15k gallons would require 140k BTUs. It would depend on how big your pool is to determine if the 266k is overkill.

Hi. The heater must be a minimum of 4 ft below, 4 ft horizontally from, or 1 ft above any door, window or gravity inlet into any building. The top surface of the heater shall be at least 3 ft above any forced air inlet, or intake ducts located within 10 ft horizontally.

Hi, Joanne. This 266,000 BTU unit will provide you with 1-1/4 degrees increase an hour which is about the minimum size, if you want a faster temperature increase you can go with the R366A or R406A model.

I have this heater on the almost exact size pool you do, but it’s gunite and I get almost a 2° increase per hour and keep mine at 89°. It’s very efficient.
My heater makes a loud banging sound every so often after the pool pump has shut down. It sounds as though its trying to fire up. Our pump runs an 8 hour cycle. Its 3 years old and works perfectly otherwise. How can I correct this?

Hi, Gary. To resolve this issue, the tube bundle will have to cool down prior to the pump shutting down. Installing a Fireman Heater Switch - 156T4042A if you have mechanical timer will help and allow your tube bundle to last longer.

My pool heater won't heat, it goes thru cycle and when it's get to SPK on screen it stays there and never heats up the heater?? Any suggestions?

Mike, When you are seeing SPK, check to see if the pilot is lighting. If the pilot is lit, it should begin a sequence that would signal the PC board to open the main gas valve and fire the burners. Said signal is a DC signal and could be interrupted by a loose or disconnected ground wire, chewed or bare wire leading from the gas valve up to the PC board, or a loose connection at the PC board. Also, inspect the condition of the pilot itself. Excessive corrosion on the pilot could also interfere with the proving signal. If the pilot is not lit by the spark, then turn off the gas and clean the pilot and pilot tube.Also, check for any loose wires/crimps in the wire harness. Also, check the wired going into the connector that plugs into the PC Board. Sounds as if it could be momentarily losing contact.

I'm replacing my 16 year old Hayward H Series H250 heater. Is this RayPak heater compatible? Will the water lines, gas line and electrical hook up connect without needing to make adjustments? PVC water lines are 2 inch and the gas line looks to be 1 inch. Pictures attached. Thank you in advance.

Hi Rick, This would be the replacement for your heater if the BTU's were similar (i.e. your BTU's are between 250K & 275K). The headers on this heater can be reversed to come in the left. Here is a Video on How to Reverse the Water Connections on a Raypak Pool Heater showing how this is done. In regards to the transformer I'm not aware of a transformer needed on this heater you may want to get more details from your pool guy on this.

We would recommend this RP2100 Digital Heater - R406A - Copper - Natural Gas - P-R406A-EN-C #50 rather than the R266A heater, as the heat output of the R266A is not nearly as much as the R406A.

Hi Kathy - you can either "tell" the heater to go to Spa mode at the control panel or wire up a remote per page 36 of the manual. The remote can be as simple as a flow switch if you have separate, dedicated pressure lines to your spa and pool. Be sure to activate the remote input (also on page 36) if you choose that route.

Hi John, the supply/discharge ports for this Raypak heater are easily changed from one side to the other by removing the side panels and switching the headers from one side to the other. See page 25 of the manual for instructions on how to do it.
