What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

My pump makes a loud high pitched screaming noise when running. The pump moves the water well but the noise is very loud. Would replacing the seals eliminate my noise problem?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/2/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

If the motor is making a loud, screeching noise while it's running, the bearings have likely failed. Replacing the seals alone will not resolve the issue. The motor and seals  should be replaced.

The capacitor in my pool pump is suspect. The motor hums when turned on and is free to turn, not frozen or jammed. There is no marking on the capacitor so I can't evaluate it without knowing the capacitance value. The pump is a WMC AT 1800 that uses a magnetek century/centurion 1 HP motor. The label is badly faded but as near as I can tell the motor part no. is B-184981.21 and the cat No. is 8226SE type CX. Can you help me determine the capacitor value?

Based on the motor number you provided  B-184981-21 the run capacitor is a 25MFD 370V. You can call Century at 866.887.5216 to verify.

Do you have information on the front half of your pump? The best place to find your pump model information is on the pump housing tag. Pool pump manufacturers label each housing with make and model information as well as serial numbers. The pump model number is the golden ticket to finding the proper tune-up kit, so we will want to find that most of all. The tag is usually placed on the side of the strainer basket or near the discharge port for easy access. Model number formats vary depending on the manufacturer but should be marked clearly.https://www.inyopools.com/Blog/pool-parts-101-the-difference-between-a-pump-and-a-motor http://www.inyopools.com/Blog/finding-the-tune-up-kit-for-your-pool-pump/

Hi Jeremy, the correct single speed replacement motor for your motor model c48k2n143b1 is the UST1102. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.

Hello Stephen - It looks like you have a Hayward Super Pump. The standard seal kit is GOKIT3 and the salt water/heavy-duty kit is GOKIT3SALT

Hello, is this the correct replacement for C48L2N134C2? Also, what seal pack do I need to purchase for salt water systems? Thank you

Yes, this is the correct replacement motor for the motor included in your photo. You will also need a Hayward Super Pump Salt Water Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Hello Bruce.  According to the information you provided, the current motor has a total HP of 1.5.  The ST1102, which is a full rated motor, has a total HP of 1.5.  An alternative motor, the up-rated UST1152 also has a total HP of 1.5.  The UST1152 is a less expensive alternative.  When replacing the motor, the manufacturer also recommends replacing the motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and o-rings.  The pump model AT5200 is very similar to the Hayward Super Pump.  The GOKIT3 contains all these necessary parts and is compatible with the AT5200.   Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump - GOKIT3   Century 1.5 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1152

Hello Don.  The Century Motors 1.0 HP Full Rate Motor model B2848 is the compatible replacement for the A.O. Smith Motor model 7-196261-24.    The gallons per minute flow rate is determined by the pump/impeller and not the motor.  Century 1.0 HP Square Flange 56Y Full Rate Motor - B2848

Hello Kevin.  Century motors 7-184948-22 (from photo) cross-references to the Century Motors UST1102.  The Start Capacitor 161-193 MFD - BC-161 is compatible with the motor UST1102.  Please confirm Voltage (110-125V) and Microfarad (161-193 uF, MFD) ratings with the current capacitor.  The Century 1.0 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1102 is the direct motor replacement.   The Tune Up Kit Carvin/Jacuzzi Magnum Series - GOKIT14 contains the necessary seals and gaskets for the motor replacement.  The PowerFlo Matrix Pump 1 HP - SP1592 - W3SP1592 would be the equivalent replacement pump.
