What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Hi Sergio, The A.O. Smith 1 1/2 H.P Square Flange Full Rate Motor (SQ1152) can be used with the Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas II Pump. You would also need to confirm if this is the actual motor that is sized to the impeller.You can find the replacement o-rings and shaft seal via the Sta-Rite Dura-Glas II and Max-E-Glas II Parts.

Hello Emma, The SQ1152 is the correct replacement motor for the model K48M2PA105 you provided. We will also recommend that you change out the motor shaft seal when you change out the motor. You will need to identify the manufacturer make and model of your pump housing, the front half the motor connects to, in order to determine the correct seal replacement.

I am looking for a replacement motor for my Centurion motor that died on me. Part number is 7-168345-25. It says it's a 1 HP with 1.65 SF. Frame Y56Y, Type CX Form KJM Code H Encl DP. It goes with a Challenger CF11-N1-1F 1-11-F99 / 34-2234 Self Priming Pump that I"d like to get a seal kit for. Salt water pool.

Hi Dave, Can you double check your part # it should be a 2PRA, 4PRA or 6PRA. If you have the 2PRA you have the Sta-Rite DuraGlas and you will need the Dura Glas Tune Up Kit. If you have the 4PRA you have the Sta-Rite DuraGlas II and you will need the Dura Glas II Tune Up Kit. If you have the 6PRA you have the Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro and you will need the Max-E-Pro Tune Up Kit.

I have a Starite Max-E-Glas ll 2 HP motor, Mod. K48N2PA105. Will the 1 1/2 Hp K48MPA105 replacement motor fit ? This motor only runs the water fall and it seems to be overkill with 2HP. I would think a 1 HP would even work if you have one thats compatible. Thank You

Hi Dennis you will need the SQ1202 2HP Motor. if you replace your motor with this 1.5 HP motor then this motor will fail quickly since it will be trying to output 2 HP worth of water because it has a 2 HP impeller. You could go down in size to this motor but you will also need to reduce your impeller size to this 1.5 HP Max-E-Glas II Impeller.

I have this motor (k48m2pa105c4) which is working ok but I wanted to replace it with a variable speed model. Is there such a replacement? the motor is a 1.5 HP with a SF of 1.47.
Its on a Sta Rite p4e6f-183l pump. If a VS motor is not available, could you suggest a suitable Var. Speed pump?

Are you sure the the VA-38 is the model of your pump and not your filter. If you have an Anthony Centrifugal pump then yes the SQ1152 would be the correct replacement motor, but just making sure that we're talking about the same thing.

My motor is becoming sluggish upon start up. I noticed on the Web the Large capacitor (20Microfard) on the outside of the motor is a run capacitor. Is this correct? If so, what do I need for the start capacitor?

Hi, Dan M. Yes, the capacitor located on the top of the motor is the Run Capacitor 20MFD 370V (17586320) and the capacitor located under the back cover is the Start Capacitor 36-43MFD, 220-250V (610807-011).

i have the Sta-rite Max-e-pro P6E6F-207L 1.5hp and it is excessively noisy. Everything works fine the 6 hours i have it running daily, and wanted to know best way to remedy this without having to replace. If not possible to fix, what motor and parts would I need to repair.

You can either replace the bearings on the motor so if the motor you have is part number SQ1152 the bearings you need to replace are part numbers 5270-31 and 5270-32. If you are not able to complete a repair like that, you will have to replace the motor and shaft seal which is part number 5057-30.

This looks like the replacement for my AO Smith Model K48M2PA105C4. What other parts am I likely to need to replace to have the replacement function the best? The impeller is the big round part attached to the flange end, correct? Is it typical to replace them both at the same time. What indicates whether it's fine or needs to be replaced. Also what is the shaft seal I see mentioned that also needs to be replaced?

Hi, R Bruce. When replacing the motor we typically recommend replacing the pump shaft seal along with the gaskets and or o-rings. You would replace the impeller if it's damaged or worn. In order to locate these parts, we will need the make and model of the pump housing. If you're unable to locate the pump info you can email us photos of the housing to upload@inyopools.com.

Hello, The motor went out on my in ground pool, part of the label on the motor is peeled of but the motor says century SQ1152 15 yrs. old, also says 1 H.P. square flange, so why when I put in SQ1152 online it says 1.5 H.P. Pool is 17,000 gallon with a 6 seat under waterfall jump off waterfall. Is the 1 H.P strong enough? Thank You, Pat

When trying to start the pump the motor just hums. I have been able to get the motor to start twice. This makes me believe that the capacitor is bad. Does this motor have 2 capacitors? I thought the cylinder on top of the motor was it. I also see a small black battery like cylinder on the back of the motor under the cover plate, so I'm not sure.

I have a max- e-pro model P6E6D-205L a 3/4hp full rate with a triton TR50 and a 12000gl pool. My clean operating pressure is 10psi I have 70+ feet of head. I'm looking to just replace the motor and not the entire pump housing. Shold I go with a 1 1/2hp full rate AO smith? The current motor hp just doesn't seem to keep the pool clean.

Hi David, I'm thinking the 1.5 HP may be too powerful for your filter. My suggestion would be the SQ1102 1 HP Full Rate Replacement Motor along with the Max E Pro Seal Kit and you will need to replace your 3/4 HP Impeller with this 1 HP Max E Pro Impeller.

If you are needing to replace the same motor, seals, and gaskets then you would need the UQC1152 and the GOKIT32 for a standard chlorine pool or the GOKIT32SALT for a salt water swimming pool.

I have a sta-rite pump with a SQ1152 motor. I purchased this motor about 6 years ago from InyoPools. It is now overheatings. It does not seem to be blowing air through the vents. Is there a better version of this motor. I am used to getting at least 10 years from a motor. Hi, Johnny. You can use the B841 motor as a replacement to the SQ1152 motor, however, you also have to replace the Impeller. If you don't want to change any other parts other than the seals, the B842 EE, or the B858 standard are the direct 56Y frame replacement options. Whichever motor you decide to get, I will recommend getting the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.

When replacing a motor it is highly recommended to replace the main seal at the least. You will need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing in order to locate the correct seal or seals. If you are not sure then you can email us images of the housing to upload@inyopools.com so we can try and identify it.

Based on this information you will want to go with the SQ1102 1 HP Full Rate Replacement Motor You will also need a shaft seal when replacing your motor this can be seen as Key # in the PHPM Parts Diagram Page you will need to know your serial # to choose the correct seal. Hi Sylvain, To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. Hi, Mark. This SQ1152 is the correct replacement motor. The 1/2" conduit connection can be purchased at your local hardware store. As for the trap cover, it might be P/N 17307-0111S. However, I will need to know the pump housing model number or provide a picture of it too confirm.

Hello. The Century SQ1152 is the correct replacement. It appears that your pump is a Pentair Dura-Glas II or Max-E-Glas II. Both these pump models have the exact same parts. Please verify this pump is a II generation by 1) Reference the pump lid part number for the II models, C3-185P, located on the perimeter of the lid itself, in the small space in between the handle ribs. 2) Compare the pump basket to the attached picture. When replacing a motor it is recommended that the shaft seal, gaskets, and o-ring be replaced as well. The GOKIT38 contains all these necessary parts and is recommended for both pump models.
