I want to replace my K48M2PA105 pump motor (which is close to dead) with this unit VGreen ECM 27SQU but I see that it is a 56Y frame. Is this adaptable to my existing pump (48Y)? Also my existing motor is a 2HP while this unit shows max rating of 2.7. Is this the appropriate HP to replace the old 2hp single speed? Thanks
 Reply

A  Answered on 12/5/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Brian M.

This VS Motor would be a fine alternative. 56Y frame Square Flange motors are 1/2" wider (body diameter) than 48Y frame with Identical hole Spacings on the Flange. They are inter-changeable. The 2.7 HP of the ECM27SQU is the MAX it can run. You will decide, when setting it up, how powerful it will be. That is the nature of the variable speed.

I have a Jandy stealth SHPF-2.0 pump single speed. I want to add this motor to reduce energy consumption. If this motor is added do I need to change the impeller? Will performance be equivalent to a Jandy epump? Will I get the max flow of a 2.5hp? Single pump pool use the pump for circulation of pool and spa, spa jets (in spa mode) and pool vacuum.

Hello Scott - This motor can be added to your SHPF-2.0, This would essentially convert it to an e-Pump. The impeller would not need to be changed. This motor would be able to provide the flow of a 2.5 total hp.

will this work as a replacement for the motor and control for a hayward spx3400z1ecm ecostar pump motor and control?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/13/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Megan C.

Hello, Chip. It is best recommended to replace the Motor Assembly SPX3400Z1ECM and the Drive-VAR SPX3400DR or Drive-VAR-SVRS SPX3400DRVR with the Original Hayward Components, in order to not lose any design features from the Manufacturer. It is also important to take into consideration if you have an Automated System, you will need to continue to use the Original Hayward Products to get the total functionality of both systems. The 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor Square Flange PART# ECM27SQU will work as a replacement motor for the EcoStar but will not perform at the same levels as the originally designed equipment. Do not forget to replace the Shaft Seal PART# 5112-216 any time you replace the motor on your Hayward EcoStar Pump.

I have a 1 1/2 hp Hayward super-pump on a 40K in-ground pool. The pump has always had problems priming; it usually takes 30-45 minutes or longer to prime and takes longer each year. Lately it can run one hour without priming; is it likely that the motor still runs but something else such as the impeller is effecting it's ability to prime? Should I install a check valve, a larger pump etc...??
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/4/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Megan C.

Hello. Yes, there are other parts internal that can cause the pump not to prime properly or not at all. I recommend to take the pump apart and inspect the Diffuser O-Ring, the Diffuser, and the Impeller, those parts all aid in priming the pump. Ideally, if any, or all of the items are damaged/cracked they will need to be replaced. Click here to view the Hayward Super Pump Parts. Also, 40k is a good size pool, that may require a more heavy duty pump. It may be worth reviewing the Hayward Super II, Energy Efficient Pump product line (EE= Energy Efficient).  Click here to view the Hayward Super 2Pumps available. Hi, yesterday I asked if "I have impeller 35-5544 and diffuser 35-5545 , will they work with this pump?" The reply was "Is it a Pentair Challenger that you are putting this motor on?" I believe it is a Pac-Fab that I have.

Pac Fab is the manufacturer, I need to know the pump model. Challenger would be a model. If you do not know what the pump model is you can attach a picture and I can identify it for you to ensure that you are getting the correct parts.

Hi, Yes this variable speed motor will fit the Pac Fab Challenger, I would suggest replacing your impeller with this 2.6 THP Challenger Impeller, this 2.6 THP Challenger Diffuser and this Challenger Seal Kit. By changing out your impeller and diffuser you ensure that you will be able to take advantage of the higher speeds on this motor.

Hi, Robert. This motor is compatible with the Jandy JEP2.0 pump. This motor can be wired to your automated controller and can be controlled using your PDA using the V-Green Automation Adapter Kit - 2517501-001. That is because this motor is a universal replacement while the original motor on the JEP pump already has the built-in capability to communicate with the Jandy controller.

If you are using a Hayward automation system like the ProLogic then you will get less read out on your ProLogic controller if using this motor. If you are needing the complete pump then you will need this SP3400VSP Hayward TriStar Variable Speed Pump.

Hi. The term variable speed is a type of motor that is controlled by a variable frequency drive. This drive allows the motor to operate at various speed and voltage. Variable speed motors usually have 3 or more programmable speed versus a dual speed motor has only two. You will need to program the controller to switch speeds.

Yes this would work but if you do not swap out your impeller then you would only be getting the output of the 1.5 HP and you would not take advantage of the higher HP range from 1.5 HP to 2.7 HP. Because of this, I would suggest the ECM16SQU Square Flange Replacement Motor 1.65 HP. You will also need a Pentair Challenger Seal Kit when you replace your motor.

Hi Mark, It would be compatible with the housing no issues there. The controller would need the automation adapter to make it work fully with the i aqualink. Or you can just supply power to it from the pump relay and use either the controller on the motor or the vlink.

Hi Brian, so you do not necessarily need to replace the impeller and diffuser unless you are sure that you will need the extra horsepower that the new variable speed motor will have at maximum RPM's. If you are sure that you will need that could you send us a few photos of your pump and motor? Please take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. Have a Pentair Whisperflo WF-28 (011774) and it sounds like it's gone through another capacitor (replaced original 17 months ago). This pump should be a great replacement. In addition to the seal kit does the impeller need to be upgraded? The user manual says the WF-28 is for a 1.5 HP but the pump clearly says 2.0 with 1.1. SF = 2.2. HP.

Hi Anibal, Yes you can upgrade the motor on your Jandy SHPM2.0 to this 1.65 HP Variable Speed Motor If you wanted to take advantage of the higher speeds of this motor then I would suggest upgrading to this 2-1/2 HP Jandy Impeller and you will need this Jandy Shaft Seal when you replace your motor. Hi Anibal, I would suggest the 2.7 HP as it will give you more pump capacity if you ever get into any demanding pool conditions like an algae bloom. The nice thing about the 2.7 HP is that you still have the ability to run it at the lower HP for times where you do not have demanding pool conditions.

Thanks Patrick! I’ve also ordered the additional items you have recommended. When the pool was installed, the prior owner installed a pump that was undersized. This new motor is in alignment with the pool. We have an easy touch system and the goal is to simply swap out the old pump with this new one. Here’s the photos of the easy touch system currently in place:

    • Commented on 6/14/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Thanks, James that is great! You will do all of the programming of the pump speeds and cycle times directly on the onboard controller on the motor. You will then set the Easytouch to power your pump on and off and then the speeds you have set on the motors controller will take over from there. You will not be able to adjust the speeds of the pump from the Easytouch. So from the onboard controller on the motor, you could program the motor to run at 1,750 RPM's from 8AM to 8PM and from your Easytouch you could program it to power your pump on at 8 AM and Power it off at 8PM

Looking to replace my old single speed pump motor (US 1081 frame 56y 1.5hp 3450rpm) that stopped working. I was told this was the variable speed motor that would work to replace it. pump is wisperflo WFE-6. What other parts should I get? (different impeller/diffuser?) I've attached pictures. How do I find out how to program it? aqualogic timer controller, a poolvergnuegen pool cleaner & circupool edge 40 SWG. are there other motors that will work with my existing setup?

Hello Jan.  The Century Motors V-Green 2.7 HP Variable Speed Motor model ECM27SQU is compatible with the Whisperflo model WFE-6.  The impeller and diffuser of the Whisperflo model WFE-6 are compatible, no need to replace these parts.  It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, seal plate o-ring, and diffuser o-ring be replaced at the same time.  The GOKIT32 (GOKIT32SALT for salt pool application) contains the parts necessary to complete this project.   Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo - GOKIT32    Attached please find the V-Green User Manual which details programming.  V-Green User Manual  The Century Motors 1.5 HP Full Rate Motor model B2842 is the compatible single speed option.

i would like to go to a lower HP motor and get new seal. is that possible?

 Reply

A  Answered on 7/21/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello David.  The transition to a lower horsepower motor is possible with the Pentair (previously Sta-Rite) P2R Dura-Glas Pool Pump.  The reduction in motor horsepower will require a change in the impeller and possibly a change in the diffuser.  Replacement motor shaft seal, seal plate o-ring, and diffuser o-ring are contained in the GOKIT6 for pumps pre 1998 or GOKIT54 for pumps 1998 to present.  Attached please find an exploded parts diagram for the Dura-Glas Pump.  The motor's horsepower (part Key 1), the impeller (part Key 10), and the diffuser (part Key 11) must all be compatible/match with each other.  Sta-Rite Dura-Glas

Hello Stephen.  The Century Motors V-Green 2.7 HP Variable Speed Motor model ECM27QU is a compatible replacement for the Century Motors 2.0 HP Up Rate Motor model HSQ220.  The replacement motor shaft seal, gaskets, and o-rings would be specific to the manufacturer/model of the pump this will be installed on and not the motor ECM27SQU.  Please provide pump manufacturer/model information and a recommendation can be made.

Would this motor work for a replacement on a Jandy FHPM2.5? The original motor has burned out and I would like to change to variable speed if possible. I have existing iAquaLink controls but I am not sure if I care to have full control on the new variable speed pump if it is possible to run 24/7 at a lower speed.

Hi Matthew, the V-Green 2.7 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM27SQU would be an excellent choice to replace the 2.5HP motor in your Jandy FHPM2.5 pump.  We do not have a tune-up kit for that pump, but we recommend installing a new PS-4280 motor shaft seal when replacing the motor.  You may also want to get the Backplate O-Ring , Diffuser & Impeller Hardware and some lubricant to ensure a long-lasting, leak-free installation.

Hi Matt, yes, the V-Green 2.7 HP Variable Speed Motor - ECM27SQU would be a perfect replacement for the motor on your WFE-28 WhisperFlo pump - and it is Title 20 Compliant for California customers.  Be sure to get a new  Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo - GOKIT32 if you have a freshwater pool or a Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Saltwater - GOKIT32SALT if you have a saltwater pool to ensure a long-lasting, leak-free installation.

I currently have a Jandy Stealth SHPF1.5 that has a AO Smith 0-193994-06 Motor. The pump is currently controlled by a Compool CP-3800 controller. The pump motor has died. Can I change to this variable speed motor and connect it to my CP-3800? Do I need to add the Pentair RLY-LXD dual speed relay? Is there anything else I need to buy to make the swap clean?

 Reply

A  Answered on 1/3/2022 by InyoPools Product Specialist Rich N.

Hi Russ, I am not sure what options are installed on your Compool system, but this V-Green 2.7 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM27SQU is able to be controlled from most of the newer automation systems by adding the V-Green Automation Adapter Kit - 2517501-001.  Some older systems like your Compool might need to be upgraded (to the EasyTouch); the dual-speed relay would not work with the variable-speed motor.

Hi Shawn, this V-Green 2.7 HP Variable Speed Motor would be a great replacement for the motor on your Jandy ePump.  Note that you may also need to get the V-Green Automation Adapter Kit if you have your existing pump hooked up to an automation system.  Otherwise, it will operate perfectly on its included timer.  We recommend replacing the motor shaft seal when replacing the motor.

Hello Emanuel.  The Hayward Pool Products Motor Assembly SPX3400Z1ECM is a motor only replacement part for the Hayward EcoStar 3400VSP Pool Pump.   Motor Assembly - SPX3400Z1ECM    The existing Motor Drive would be installed on the replacement motor.  The Century Motors V-Green 2.7 HP Variable Speed Motor ECM27SQU is a replacement motor and drive in a single unit.  (the existing Motor Drive would no longer be used)  Both options would be acceptable.  The GOKIT81 contains the necessary parts to complete the installation of either option.   GOKIT81

I have an AO Smith B2848 1 HP pump and would like to upgrade to this variable speed pump. Is this this pump compatible? I would like the extra HP for a future spa install. Would I need any extra parts to install this pump? Otherwise I believe the swap is the ECM16SQU?

 Reply

A  Answered on 3/28/2022 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello Nick.  The A. O. Smith 1.0 HP motor B2848 is a Full Rate motor with a total horsepower of 1.65 HP.   The Century Motors V-Green 2.7 HP variable Speed Motor model ECM27SQU would be a compatible replacement motor for the B2848.  Upgrading the pump Impeller would provide an increase in circulation in combination with the ECM27SQU.  Upgrading the motor alone will not produce the desired result.  Please provide pump manufacture/model information and a further recommendation can be made.

Hello Christopher.  The Century Motor model SQ1202 (per photo) has a total horsepower of 2.6 (horsepower of 2.0 X service factor of 1.3 = total horsepower of 2.6).  The current Impeller and Diffuser have been factory selected for maximum flow per the pump motor's total horsepower. A  Answered on 11/10/2022 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Hello Tom, so the seal kit needed will depend on if your Pentair Challenger pool pump is a CH or a CF series. Since your particular pump does not have a visible model number on the plastic pump housing then you can also confirm what series that you have by getting the pump impeller or even diffuser part number off of one of those parts. With that part and performing a search to locate the Challenger parts diagram on our site, you will see that the series pump model is stated on that diagram.
