What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

I need to replace a common motor ao smith b855 2hp 56y, does it matter what pump the motor is driving,except for gaskets ,seal and o rings , and is there a universal gasket seal kit

It would not matter for the pump as long as the specs match what is currently installed. For the seals and gaskets we would need the information off the pump housing in order to find that information.

I have a Century Centurion part # 7-177476-20 pump that I need to replace and I am trying to make sure that this pump is the proper replacement pump.

Is this a replacement for my B855? I have a "0" at the beginning of 0-177897-22. The site shows "7" and "8" but no "0". All spec's look the same. Also, what is the "GO" kit number for this? Please see photos
Hi Curtis, yes, this is the correct replacement motor for the motor included in your photo. You will also need a Pentair Whisperflo seal kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Please recommend an appropriate motor.

Hi Rich, Thanks for the information and photos. For California, you will require this 2.7 HP Variable Speed Motor to take advantage of the higher HP range of this motor I would suggest also getting this 2.5 HP Whisperflo Impeller. When replacing your motor you will need this Whisperflo Seal Kit.

What "Go Kit" gaskets do I need?
The go-kits are based on the pump manufacturer and model. The picture you provided has the motor manufacturer and model, but I need to know what pump this motor is going on.If you know the manufacturer and model number you can find the Gokit on this page...Go-Kits

Hello Peter. The Century Motors 2.0 HP Up Rate Motor model B855 is No Longer Available and is automatically replaced by the Century Motors 2.0 HP Up Rate Motor model B2855. The Century Motors model B2855 is compatible with the Pentair Whisperflo 2.0 HP Pool Pump. It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and diffuser o-ring be replaced concurrent with the new motor. The GOKIT32 contains the necessary parts to complete this project. The better replacement for your 0-193994-06 motor is this Century 1.5 HP Square Flange 56Y Full Rate EE Motor - B2842. Let us know what model pump this hooks up to so we can recommend a new motor shaft seal or tune-up kit to ensure a leak-free installation.

Sorry, I should attach another picture. The motor is SHPM2.0 It is 2HP
It looks like we will need the serial number from the wet-end of the SHPM2.0 to suggest the seals, do you have that image? We recommended the B2842 because the voltage is 208-230V and has the same total HP of 2.21, please see How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated

Hello, the B2855 motor will be compatible with your Whisperflo wet end-- you will just need to use a shaft seal to bond the motor shaft to the wet end.

I need a seal kit for the motor and pump. From reading what I can on the pump- it says Challenger AC-FAB 2 1/2. And then on another sticker it says CHII- N1-2 2 1/2 and below that 1-??-L98 / 34-6209
