Century 1.0 HP Thru-Bolt 48Y Dual Speed Low Amps Motor - BN37V1
Hello Lou Ann. The Century 1.0 HP Thru-Bolt 48Y Dual Speed Low Amps Motor - BN37V1 is a compatible motor replacement for the Century Motors motor model BN37, 7-177782-03. The motor's capacitor is located underneath the capacitor housing (oblong box). It is recommended that the Closure O-ring (O-108) (154493) - 071422 and Pump Shaft Seal 5/8" - PS-1000 be replaced concurrent with the new motor installation. The side discharge is a function of the pump's wet end and not the orientation of the motor. The BN37V1 is compatible with the Waterway Hi-Flo AG Side Discharge Pump

I have a Waterway PH2100-3 pump that I would like to replace the motor on. Can I replace the BN36 with a BN37V1? Attached pictures are my current motor's nameplates.
Hi, Yes you can upgrade your 3/4 HP BN36 motor to this 1 HP BN37 motor. You will need to upgrade your impeller to a 1 HP impeller to take advantage of the higher flow of the 1 HP motor, you will require this 1 HP Waterway Hi-Flo II Impeller. When replacing your motor you will also require this Waterway Hi-Flo II Shaft Seal.

Why does the sticker on my pump say "1.0 HP - 0.12 SPL"? You said it is 3/4" HP? 8.8 amps at 115V indicate 1.0 HP.
Reply
Waterway uses a SPL HP Rating where a 1 HP is equivalent to a 3/4 HP standard motor. The industry has done away with SPL HP and gone to standard HP ratings. Please be assured this is the correct replacement. If you want to dig into this more we did write this article on Why Your Spa Pump's HP is a Lie which gives more detail.

believe this is same motor but mine is1 1/2 hp . do you have this in 1 1/2

Hi, Dave K. Unfortunately, there is not a replacement motor available with a power cord and or switch already attached. These parts will have to be purchased separately and then installed on the motor.

Need new motor/pump assembly for 24' round 52" pool. Old pump is Waterway, 2HP, 2-speed, Hi Flo SD 1502189245. We always run it on high to move 30 GPM in 8 hours. Low doesn't cut it; barely moves the water. We want our next model to be timer compatible. Looking at Hayward Power Flo Matrix. Need a pump with horizontal fixture. Is 2HP too much? Thinking dual speed, 1.5HP would be better. We got the 2HP our local store had on shelf. What do you recommend? Which timer do we need to match? Thx :)

Hi, Laura. A 2HP pump could be too big depending on the size of your filter.

I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.
Reply
What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.Â

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.
Reply
Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Can you replace single speed pump motor with dual speed pump motor?
Reply
Yes but you can't go with a higher HP than the single speed motor. For example if you have a 1 HP single speed you cannot go with a 1.5 HP dual speed motor; you would be able to use a 1 HP dual speed motor. Customer would need to purchase a toggle switch or timer to switch from high speed to low speed.

(5 out of 5 stars) Great Pump
Reviewed By: pool person from Huntsburg, OH ()
Pros: Was much less expensive than replacing the whole pump unit
Cons: Was alittle confusing to wire.
Had a pump going bad on an above ground pool. Replacing the whole unit was very expensive. Decided to try just replacing the pump. This one has worked great. It has the two speed option we were looking for to help save on the energy costs. Is quiet and very powerful. We have only had it for a couple of months, but it has worked well. Have already put it away for the winter here in Ohio, but do not anticipate having any troubles with restart in the spring. Much more economical way to go than buying a whole new pump and filtration system like the pool places want you to do. Glad we ordered it.
