I need a 1HP Pool pump. What is the difference between a Century B2852 model and B2853? And are these energy efficient? Thank you.
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/21/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

The B2852 is a 3/4 HP uprated motor and the B2853 is a 1Hp uprated motor. These are not considered energy-efficient motors. An energy-efficient option would be part number ECM16SQU.

I have an AO Smith 3/4 hp pool motor that I need to replace. I purchased and Endless Pool in about 2003 and need to replace it. The motor I have is a 3/4 hp Century Centurian and the part number is 7-18623600-26. I am considering a Century 3/4 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2852. I want to be sure that the flange is compatible with my pump. Can you verify this for me? I've added a photo of the motor and the label. Thanks, Gary

The correct motor replacement for your 7-186236-20 is the Century 3/4 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2852. Then you can select the correct gasket kit for your pump from this Pentair Pump Parts Page.

Hi Ted, the correct replacement motor for your motor included in the picture is the B625. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos or quickest provide them using our live online chat feature. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.

I have a Jandy (7-193984-25) 3/4 HP, 56Y, SF-1.3 producing .98 Total HP. I read here that the SF is split into =1.27 & <1.30. Will the SF be an issue for me? Also, is there anything else required for installation?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/20/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Hi Jim, being that your compatible single speed replacement motor is the B852 for your motor part number 193984, no the service factor will not affect you. Also, replacing the seals and gaskets is recommended however in order to cross-reference the correct ones we will need to know the front pump housing wet end model name or number to confirm that for you.

Unfortunately, there is nothing we carry to prevent corrosion on the motor. I would recommend a Protective Pool Motor Cover - R221016 to keep the elements off of your motor as much as possible as well as not allowing runoff rainwater from the roof to fall directly on it.

Hi Bob, The B852 motor only has a run capacitor and no start switch. The only thing could be the motor windings.

Is this the motor I need for the whisperflo 0.75 hp pump
 Reply

The Pentair WhisperFlo has four 3/4 HP variations. What is the part catalog or model number on your current motor's label?

My old pool label reads A.O.Smith CAT serial CA04-08 Part 7-186236-20 Type CX FR:P56Y, HP---, SF---, PH 1, HZ 60, RPM 3450, Volts 230/115, AMPS 5.4/10.8, Time: CONT, ENCL: DP, FORM: KJM, CODE: N, AMB: 40. It seems like this pump will replace my old one but I wanted to make sure before I purchased this.

Hi, The A.O. Smith 3/4 HP, 56Y Frame, Up-Rate Motor (B852, B2852) will fit a Pentair Challenger Pump. You would also need to confirm that this motor is ok to use with your current Impeller.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Old pump motor was getting very loud.

Gave inyopools.com all of the info off of the old motor and they sent me the perfect replacement. They also sent me an email with a video link on how to properly replace the motor. With the video and a little help from my neighbor the replacement process was a breeze.
