Hello Bruce, That motor will not work. The reason is the motor for a Hayward Max-Flo 2 is a square flange and the motor you had selected was a round flange.  This is the correct part number is SPX2705Z1M .

Mr. Brown, Based off the specs of your current motor, the replacement motor for your pump is a UST1072. The manufacturer recommends replacing your shaft seal whenever you replace your motor.  The shaft seal for the Super Pump is part # SPX1600Z2

Looking over the questions and answers below, there are two places where a replacement motor is said to be the UST1072 and a new shaft seal is recommended. However, the two shaft seal part numbers are different, yet they are supposedly for the same motor. Which is the correct shaft seal part number for the UST1072 3/4 HP pump?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/7/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

ChrisP, That's because this motor can be used on several different pumps, but the shaft seals are unique to that specific pump housing. So in order to get you the specific shaft seal you need we will need to know the manufacturer and model of your pump housing. Pump xxamples would be Hayward Super Pump, Hayward Super II, Jacuzzi Magnum, Hayward Max- Flo, etc..

Hi Howard, The mounting plate that the motor bolts to is square but the motor flange is considered round or C-Faced. The model number you provided SP2610X15 cross references to a UST1152 as the replacement motor but the motor number C48J2N131B3 is replacement by the UST1072 motor. So if the motor was downsized then you will need the UST1072 motor along with the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT.

If the original was a full rate motor instead of a up rate motor that could be the difference of almost 1/2 total horsepower. Also, did you replace the shaft seal when replacing the motor?

Good morning Ed, I am showing replacement motor  UST1072. I would recommend getting a gokit. Which is a kit that contains the correct o-rings and shaft seal you will need in the changing process. You will need to provide us with what type of pump you have in order to get the correct one. If you need help with this. Feel free to give us a call.

Hi, Larry. You can use the 1 HP - UST1102 or the 1.5HP - UST1152 as a replacement. However, you will first have to confirm if your system can handle the additional water flow and you will also have to change the impeller to match the motor's hp.

The motor model numbers that you provided, unfortunately, do not cross reference on our site nor under a google search. But we do show the original replacement motor for the Hayward booster pump model 5060. It would be key number 11 on the parts diagram here. Lastly, we do not have a seal kit for that pump but would recommend to change the seals on keys 5 and 6.

Hi, Sheila. The Motor code is the NEMA code letter that specifies locked rotor kVA per HP (volts multiplied by locked rotor amps, divided by 1000 times rated HP). It is used to determine the correct size breaker needed in the electric box. A code J is 7.1 - 7.99 and Code H is 6.3 - 7.09. If you can provide the Part or Model of number of your original motor I can locate the replacement.

I have UST1072 pump for my underground pool. When I turn on the pump, it pumps the water fine. But after an hour or so the volume of pumped water goes down. The reading on pressure gauge remains the same which is little less than 20. But it does not pump enough water for the vacuum unit to move at the bottom of the pool and that stays in one place. What might be the problem?

A  Answered on 8/6/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Gill. It sounds like you have a water flow issue that could be caused by your filter or pump. I'm leaning towards your filter because if it was the pump, the issue will start at the begin of the pump cycle not a few hours in. Check out our How Do I Correct Low Water Pressure? and How to Correct Low Water Pressure in Your Pool System guides.

A  Answered on 5/29/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes this the appropriate replacement motor for a C48J2N131B1. We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

Hi David, Yes this motor will work as a replacement for your current motor. However, your current motor is an energy efficient version of this motor which costs about 20% less to operate. If you wanted to stay with the energy efficient version then you will need this UCT1072 3/4 HP Energy Efficient Replacement Motor. We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know the model name of your Hayward pump, common pump names would be Super Pump, Max Flo, Super II, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if it is easier you can send a few photos. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. Hi, Marco. Unfortunately, this UST1072 motor cannot be used as a replacement because of the frame style. The USQ1072 is the direct replacement. You will also need to get the Sta-Rite Dura-Glas/Max-E-Glas Tune Up Kit - GOKIT6 (Pre-1998) or GOKIT54 (1998-Current).

I searched for a replacement motor for a Super Pump model sp2605x7 with a c48j2n131b1 motor. What came up was an AO Smith UST1072 and a Pureline replacement, also a UST1072. The former costing $138.99 and the latter $114. Isn't this the same pump? Is there any difference besides the price? Also, isn't the UCT1072 a replacement for my old motor? It didn't come up in the search. The GOKIT3 would be the right one for any of these motors, correct?

Hi, Mike. The only difference between the UST1072 and PL1072 is the brand. The UCT1072 is an energy-efficient option. The Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT is also the correct kit for your model pump.

Hi Chris, you will need to remove the metal collar still on the impeller shaft. You can use pliers and pull it off. Rust on the impeller isn't a big deal. It seems okay. As long as there are no cracks or broken pieces off of the impeller it will be okay to reuse.

I reviewed the order history and see that you placed a new order for the UST1072 and GOKIT3 for your Super Pump, thank you! Water entering the motor shaft or vents, in most cases is the culprit for bearing failure or improper water levels in the pool. I recommend replacing the SPX2605CKIT in the future when you need to replace the motor again. The wet-end parts have an estimated lifespan of 10-years, after 10-years the kit or the whole pump/motor should be replaced as it has completed its lifespan.

It is not recommended to upgrade your motor to add HP to your pump.  You will also need to change out some internal parts and than also check to see if your pool filter can handle the new HP of the pump.  If you do decide to increase your HP.  I would suggest changing out the entire pump and than sizing the proper filter for that pump.

Hello Bonnie.  The Century Motors 3/4 HP Up Rate Motor is the correct replacement for the Century Motors UT1072.  This motor is in stock.  Attached please find INYO Pools Shipping Policy.  Shipping Policy   Expedited Shipping Options are available at Check Out.  It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and diffuser o-ring be replaced at the same time as the motor.  These parts are specific to the manufacturer/model of the pump and not the motor.  Manufacturer/model information is visible on the Information Plate located on the body of the wet end.  If this information is no longer visible or present, please provide several photos of the pump inclusive of the intake and discharge plumbing and a recommendation can be made.

Hi Sam, the Century 3/4 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1072 will replace your old C48J2N131B1 motor perfectly but the seals are specific to the pump and not the motor. Let us know what the model of the pump is that the motor attaches to so we can recommend a new motor shaft seal or Tune-Up Kit to ensure a leak-free installation.

My pump motor shuts off, seems to over heat, some time later after cooling off, it runs OK. Is the pump failing? If so do you have a replacement motor? Should I replace the pump filter housing as well as the motor?

Hello. From the scenario described, it would appear that the thermal overload is disrupting motor operation.  Attached is a brief tutorial Using the Proper Test Equipment to Troubleshoot Pool Motors   Note Section - Protector (Thermal Overload).  If the Thermal Overload measures within the norm, the other motor issues are indicated.  The Century 3/4 HP  ST1072 would be the correct motor replacement for the Century motor model C1099.  The Hayward Super Pump GOKIT3 contains the seals and gaskets that should be replaced concurrent with the new motor.  If the pump housing has integrity there is no need to replace it.

It appears this UST1072 is a good replacement for my Hayward Super Pump motor C48J2N131B3 SP-1605-Z1-MBK, except for the AMPS (my motor says 11.0/5.5). Does this matter?

A  Answered on 2/8/2023 by InyoPools Product Specialist Rich N.

Hi Kelli, the UST1072 motor will be a perfect replacement for the motor pictured on your Super Pump.  This newer motor was designed a bit better for more efficiency; the horsepower and service factor are the same. Be sure to add a GOKIT3 or a GOKIT3SALT if you have salt water for a leak-free installation and check out our guides on How To Replace a Pool Motor Shaft Seal and How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump for some helpful tips

I have a Hayward Max-Flo-II 3/4 HP Square Flange Up Rate Motor - SPX2705Z1M, will this replacement motor work with my current pool pump system?
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/1/2023 by InyoPools Product Specialist Jacob F.

Hello, the UST1072 has a different frame than your current motor (round vs square flange), and the total horsepower of the SPX2705Z1M is a quarter step above the total horsepower of the UST1072. The motor replacement I would recommend would be the USQ1102, as the USQ1102 has a similar total horsepower as your current motor.
